soarwitheagles
Hi everyone! I just installed my first H70 in my newest build and overall I am extremely happy with it. The one and only thing I do not like about it is the fan noise. The two fans are the loudest by far in my entire system and I would like to order some quieter fans or find some way to make the Corsair fans quieter. I would appreciate any and all good advice. Thanks, Soar
djmorgan
Ultimately the choice is yours, I'd recommend fans that have a high pressure and are contollable (PWM) Again from a personal point of view I installed a pair of CM Exalibur fans that are variable from 900 - 2000rpm, I use a mother board fan profile to adjust the speed. Others will no doubt jump in to give you recommendations, try to make sure they have actually used the fans they suggest.:-) Running stock and every stress test I have done the CPU does not exceed 61c and the fan speed is around 1500 rpm which are very quiet. Here is what they look like http://djmorgan.bigblog.com.au/data/11/55466/image/EOS5DMkII012341755007877074728429820101113212839.jpg Here is a video I did because somebody in another forum was complaining about H70 noise even though he didn't have a H70, (the bad thing about internet reviews) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFH0Jiiykp4 David
nikonnut
I have a pair of Cooler Master SickleFlow fans coming tomorrow. I'll post results as soon as I have some info to share :)
kkolbo
He is my journey in that area. I need to clean the radiator and clear the airflow around my unit, but for 4.27GHz I get quiet results and good temps.
Malfeitor
Noiseblockers are top notch and very quiet. The multiframes are bar none the best IMO
nikonnut
So I have the sickleflows in and running at max speed (2000 RPM). Outside of the case they are dead silent. Installed they are louder but not any louder than the other case fans (Armor+). I believe the extra noise comes from the restriction that the radiator offers. IT seems like all the best WC fans have insane amounts of static presure and are insanely loud (I've seen some deltas that hit 55 dBA). I'm pleased with them but you would have to judge them for yourself. Good luck in the search :)
djmorgan
All sound is is pressure waves entering your lug hole! (ear) I think the trick is to get fans that keep reasonably cool the CPU at lower rotation levels, one reason I stopped OC'ing was because my CPU always ran at 4.3Ghz even when all that was happening was the desktop, but temp and fans had to accommodate that extra little boost. At least running stock you have the advantage of the CPU stepping down when not needed, so doing work with word, excel, surfing for pron, etc nothing is stressed. What I'm trying to say, not too succesfully, is that for the majority of time your computer doesn't need a whole heap of grunt so your fans don't need to work hard or noisy to keep the operating temp okay. Therefore if you can get fans to run at say less than half their max RPM (say 1100 - 1500) then they are going to be a lot quieter than running at max. thus the need for fully variable fans and a good fan profile to suit your needs. Just my 2c worth. David PS. I play ArmA2 maxed out and never saw any difference in performance between OC and stock.
forgetfool
Slowing fan speeds with the same water flow wouldn't necessarily provide a proportionate amount of cooling capacity relative to the reduction of fan speed I don't believe. That's why specialized low velocity hi volume radiators, 700 rpm fans, etc. have been developed. I don't think that just slowing things down scale's well in terms of cooling efficiencies. There may be adequate capacity designed into the system already to allow that but it seems doubtful that that would represent the most efficient implementation. Just a thought. Archaea
I found this review that states the Scythe Gentle Typhoon is the best combo of airflow and noise for a radiator. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cooling/2009/09/28/what-s-the-best-case-fan/5 I have the same question and am subscribing to this thread for additional posts. I can only easily use one fan in my Cosmos 1010 case and the stock h70 fans are TOO loud for my tastes.
MyThLoSt
i got the coolermaster cm4s on my h50 but the gentle typhoons are suppose to be the best http://img137.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=001sr.jpg
Bob2701
I have installed 2 Noctua NF-P12 fans and they are very quiet yet move a lot of air. The only problem is they are ugly, a ugly brown.
IRAKLION
Hi: I am getting excellent results from using Cooler Master fans in push/pull on both H50 and H70. I do not recommend using mobo fan control--no PMW. My Cooler Masters are running directly off the power supply at 1970 RMP and they are very quiet. My rads/fans are front mounted in the case intaking cool air from outside. Cooling results are excellent.
Tech Tweaker
I would also recommend the CM Excalibur case fans. I have one in my case I'm using as an exhaust fan, and even at max speed (2280 RPM in my case) and flowing close to 86 CFM, I can hardly tell it's on most of the time. fullvietFX
I'm also running two Noctua NF-P12's@1200RPM. Virtually silent, and still very good temps.
