tiodiego
Hi!, I bought this memory pack 7 months ago, it comes with 2 memory sticks, 2 gb each, should run at 1333 mhz with 9-9-9-24 timings at 1.5 volts. First week since I installed the memory sticks I had some BSOD's. I thought it was caused by drivers, because I updated some of them and I had no more problems for some months. 2 months ago I started to get BSOD's frequently, so I used memtest86+ 4.10 and I got errors after 30 minutes of test with both memory sticks connected. I tried changing both from slots 1 and 2 to 3 and 4, but had the same results. Then in some forum I read something about upping the voltage a bit, normally I had my memory voltages at 1.60 volts because my motherboard doesnt go lower than that, so I tried 1.65 volts and my system had no problems for almost a week, until it crashed. Then I started the tests with only one stick at a time at 1.60 volts, I left it running for 3 passes each and got no errors, so I did again the same test but this time using 1.65 volts. I left the first stick testing for 3 passes again and it had no errors. But with the second stick, it sent 9 errors at 7 minutes of testing. I suppose there must be a problem with that second memory stick, because if the problem was of another component then I guess the same errors would have appeared to both of the sticks. I've been using just the memory stick that didn't fail, for over a week now without any kind of instability problem. I was reading about the RMA option and it sounds nice, though I live in Chile, so I guess it would be like a month without being able to use the computer (a month without playing Quake 3 Arena xD! or other games:roll:) So I post here in case anybody can give me any other ideas on what the problem could be, and some solution :p:. If I have no other option than to RMA, do I need to use the Tech Support Express for asking for an RMA# ? and excuse me for the ridiculous question :D: but when asking for the manufacturer, the option @computer means myself? and what are those Model options? I really got confused on that part. That's it for now, thanks. Diego.
trackrat
9-9-9-24 2T @ 1.6 Volts would be the normal settings for the RAM you have and this should be on the RAM label. If testing of one DIMM at a time with Memtest 86+ shows errors then you should RMA the kit. Sorry but I can't answer your RMA questions.
tiodiego
Thanks for the quick reply trackrat ! I have checked again the memory sticks, but it says in one of the stick's label: CM3X2048 - 1333C9DHX XMS3-1333 2048MB 1333MHz 9-9-9-24 1.50V ver2.3 I will request an RMA using Tech Support Express, I feel like a dumb now that I understand the available options  (I thought @computer meant "the user", in this case myself :D:... didn't know there was an @computer brand) Diego. tiodiego
ok, I have requested an RMA#, meanwhile I tested some more, and the failing memory stick gives no errors after 18 hours on memtest86+ 4.10 when using SPD timings (42 passes) @ 1.60v. But it will send 4 errors at 4 minutes when using SPD timings @ 1.65v. I dont understand why it sends errors so easily by upping the voltage just a bit, but the sticks work perfectly running at SPD timings @ 1.60 volts and one at a time. tiodiego
I have received an RMA#, but before I put the memory sticks on a box and send them, I have to ask, is it normal that memtest shows errors by upping the voltage? because this pack is supposed to run at 1.50 volts, and one memory at a time works perfect at 1.60 volts and SPD timings (with both sticks). One of them fails when using 1.65 volts and SPD timings (is this normal or non faulty mem sticks should have no problems with this voltage?). And when using both at the same time with 1.60 and 1.65 volts, memtest sends errors. Could all be just some bad bios configuration? maybe I just need to set some properties Manually? please halp xD! before I send them and I lose money and time on the courier! thanks, Diego.
