wiltshire tony
On the final part of building my new system and I discover that the 8 pin EATX12V cable I need to connect the AX850 to my ASUS P6X58D-E Mobo doesn't have a compatible connector block on the cable for the mobo end. Thought I was losing the plot so checked and checked again but no, the cables supplied simply do not align with the pin shapes used on the mobo connector. There are two shapes of pins, lets call them square (SQ) and Non-square (NSQ). The mobo block looks like this Row1 SQ - NSQ - NSQ - SQ Row2 NSQ - SQ - SQ - NSQ attaching clip this side Can I get some help please. This is a brand new PSU. PricklyPete
There are two 8-pin connectors included with the 850, did you try them both?
wiltshire tony
Sure did Pete. Like I say, thought I was going mad, but neither were correct.
PricklyPete
Odd. On the connector end that goes to the pus, mine are marked '750AX/850AX ONLY', are yours?
wiltshire tony
Yes mine have that. They are all at the PSU end of the cables.
wiltshire tony
Looking at the two cables I can say that at the PSU end one has a twelve pin block and the other has a eight pin block. Both have a pair of four pin blocks at the other end of the cables. Does this sound right?
Synthohol
this one? http://www.corsair.com/_images/products/eps-atx12v_8-4_pin.jpg not the 6+2 ones?
PricklyPete
Yes Tony, those ends match mine.

wiltshire tony
Yes Tony, those ends match mine. So I'm supposed to be able to fill the mobo 8pin block with 2No. 4pin blocks on the Corsair cable? Only neither of the 4pin blocks have the right configuration of pins eg square and non-square. PricklyPete
I assume that Synth was thinking you were maybe trying to plug the pci-express cables into the EPS connector.
wiltshire tony
I assume that Synth was thinking you were maybe trying to plug the pci-express cables into the EPS connector. Oh you think? No I hadn't tried that cos they have PCI written on them ;):
PricklyPete
Oh you think? No I hadn't tried that cos they have PCI written on them ;): And don't try them (iirc, they're a different connector anyway)
wiltshire tony
No, I wouldn't
PricklyPete
Can you double check the mobo ends of both of the EPS cables (are the shape of the connectors the same?). I just compared the pin shape on the cable with with the 12-pin connector to a spare pus I have and I do see that the shape of the pins don't match. For me the 8-pin to 8-pin must have been right as I didn't have any problems plugging it into my mobo.
wiltshire tony
Both cables have identical pin configurations on each pair of their 4pin blocks. One has 4 non-square pins the other has 2 square/2 non-square in diagonal pattern.
wiltshire tony
Just done a browse of images of the moby and noticed this This is the mobo connector as I have it http://i520.photobucket.com/albums/w324/wiltshire_tony/SROUK/asus_p6x58de_8.jpg and here's another picture from the same article http://i520.photobucket.com/albums/w324/wiltshire_tony/asus_p6x58de_5.jpg That looks like it has a blanking piece over half of it. What should I draw from this? That I only need to connect to one half of the mobo connector?
PricklyPete
Yeah, just realized that though the shape of the connectors are indeed different....they work just fine.... Goahead and plug either one in. Btw,the shape on your mobo is the typical shape of the connectors (nothing out of the ordinary) for whatever reason Corsair didn't use the same shape on theirs. (and it will fit and work, sine you will be putting two u-shaped connectors where square connectors are expected.)
PricklyPete
FYI,Asus usually puts that black cover on 4 of the 8 pin connector, but since you do have the proper EPS12V cables, just pull off that cover and you're good to go.
wiltshire tony
I didn't get the cover to pull off, but I take your point. I've had enough tonight but I'll get back on it tomorrow. Thanks for the help.
Yellowbeard
Both cables have identical pin configurations on each pair of their 4pin blocks. One has 4 non-square pins the other has 2 square/2 non-square in diagonal pattern. http://www.corsair.com/_images/products/hx_eps-atx12v_8-4_pin.jpg The shape of each pin does not matter. Insert this plug into the socket in your pictures and it will work. FYI, the little black socket cover is to allow use with older PSUs that have a 4 pin only EPS connector. Remove that little black cover.
