Survivor 64gb GTR build quality (rattle and loose fit)

I just received my new 64gb Survivor GTR after using an original Survivor 32gb for several years. My old drive has been by far my most favorite and it is still going strong despite excessive abuse over the past few years (only upgraded for more speed and storage).

But I have to say the new 64gb GTR model just doesn't seem to be built as well. Specifically, I am having the same issue as outlined in the threads below. It's not really the "cap" that is loose, but rather the threaded base that is permanently attached to the thumb drive itself. The play between the drive and the base is significant and it feels like a good whack would just snap it right off. When screwed into the end cap, the play is such that the thumb drive actually rattles in the tube. On my old drive, these two pieces are solidly connected with no discernible movement whatsoever (and no rattle).

I would ask for an RMA, but it sounds like all the GTR drives have this issue? The gentlemen in the third link RMA'd for a total of three drives and they all had this issue. Can anything be done?

Regards,

Bob L.

Should my new Survivor GTR 32GB be wiggly?

fix is easy. i had 3 of these Survivors GTR's and they all have the same issue.

there are 2 black, phillips head screws under the sticker that are loose from the factory.

what looks like a solid one piece unit where the stick attaches to the threaded 'head' unit is actually held in place buy 2 screws.

to fix, peel away the top portion of the 'survivor' sticker on the under side of the drive - not the side with the LED. no need to peel it completely off, just lift up a small flap.

get a small headed screwdriver and tighten the two screws - bingo. put the flap of sticker back in place and you're done.

Wow! You, sir, are a scholar and a gentleman!

A little bit of Locktite and a precision screwdriver and the wiggle is gone! Thank you! This should really be added as a sticky or knowledge base article or something.

Shame that Corsair was gonna have me send it back in for such a simple fix. I wonder how many people are out there that don't know how easy it is to rectify.

first one with the problem of loose screws died with the usual issue currently affecting the Survivor range and has already been RMA'd so don't have the lot code for that one.

the other 2 which also had the loose screws are 10327328 & 1300549609

i know that looks weird with the different lengths but the size of the writting on the USB metal connector is the smallest i've seen !!! it would make a cold war spy using micro dots proud that his craft is still in use.
