Force Series 2.0 After the Update

Yellowbeard

Recommended Posts

Let's get it replaced, please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace it. Be sure to check the box that says “I've already spoken to Technical Support and/or RAM Guy.”

Apparently, there appears to be a new mass production firmware (posted here) but at time of writing I don't have confirmation. Maybe it'd be better I wait out on this before dealing with an RMA, especially since this appears to be recent.

Also if an FW 3.0 is in the works, please let us know so we can stop posting in this thread. :sunglasse

Decided to update Windows 7 Pro to SP1 and would you know it the BSOD that previously occured when system was put to SLEEP has returned.

Nothing has changed hardware and software wise only new MS and Virus updates were added to the system before SP1.

Ran my laptop like I would normally for over a week and it would BSOD every single time I awoke it from SLEEP.

So back to an old image without SP1 and hope for a fix from MS.

Not sure if this meets the rules as my SSD came with 2.0 on it, but here it is...

Hardware spec - it's in my profile, duh?

Both problems happen with the specification as my profile: Gigabyte

P67A-UD3P-B3, 16G Corsair Vengeance RAM. Corsair 650W power, Win 7 pro 64-bit, GeForce 570, i7-260K at stock everything. Problem (2) also happens with the equivalent Asus P68 board, which is why I'm suspecting you.

Two problems:

(1) BSOD on initiate S3 sleep.

Not coming out, going in. Repeatable 100%. Work-around: disable hybrid sleep in Windows. Not a big issue for me, but still broken.

(2) Random freezes. Nothing for two weeks, then maybe two a day, then another two weeks with nothing. Sometimes accompanied by garbage on the audio channel, not associated with system load. Same issue with Asus P68 mobo as Gigabyte. Complete hard crash, low level lock-up - Windows doesn't know it happened until it's restarted. So it's down there below the OS... and it can't be the mother board because I'm on my second and they're from different manufacturers. Could it be you... there's at least one other post here of the same symptom.

System:

Sony Vaio VPCCB

Intel Core i5-2410

Windows 64bit

Corsair F80 SDD (FW 2.0)

Intel® Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller

Issue:

BSOD when resuming from sleep most of the time.

Operating system not found on boot about 50% of the time.

Used same SSD drive on Dell Inspiron 1720 with same problems but could be fixed by disabling quick boot in BIOS (adding 1 minute to boot time).

Dont have that option on the Vaio BIOS.

Gigabyte GA-P35DS3L v2.0

Latest BIOS (circa early 2009, and no further updates expected)

Q9550 processor @3.4GHz (rock stable with Prime95)

Corsair PC8500 DDR2 memory (chosen from the QPL) slightly underclocked @ 1000Mhz, 4x1GB

PCI and PCIe bus speeds set to Auto (100MHz)

F120 (new, with factory FW 2.0 installed) system disk on SATA0

Two mechanical disks on SATA1&2

"SMART" is set to Disabled in BIOS setup.

On cold boot there's a long delay at AHCI disk enumeration while the F120 emits "SMART Command Failed". Mechanical disks report in properly. On warm boot there is no SMART error 19 times out of 20. Intel and Samsung SSDs always enumerate properly on this board.

Note that it is VERY unlikely that Gigabyte will be issuing any BIOS code updates for this 2007 vintage board, so that it not a satisfactory "solution". Nor should they have to revisit this otherwise working BIOS, IMO. The problem is confined to this particular SSD.

Yes the issue is confined to SandForce based hard drives but from SandForce's point of view this SMART problem is confined to Gigabyte boards. It is a well known issue and Gigabyte has released a wave of BIOS updates to get these fixed. I agree with you though if you have an older board the BIOS updates to address the problem are slim at this point.

I am having the exact same problems as before updating to 2.0 Firmware.

What happens is:

1 - The computer starts up normally and everything is fine for about 4-6 minutes.

2 - After that everything freezes up for about one minute and then the cpu try to reboot.

3 - At this point the system can't find my F120 SSD (system disk) and tells me to connect a booting device.

4 - If I power off the system and then power on again it's back to step one and repeat the process.

System:

HDD: Corsair F120 SSD (fw:2.0)

Processor Intel core i7-950 3,07 Ghz

Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth X58

Motherboard bios : rev 1.0.0.1019

Memory : Corsair 12GB (3x4096MB) 1600MHz Vengeance

Graphics : AMD Radeon HD6900

OS : Windows 7 Home Premium x64

*EDIT*

I should add that everything has been working just fine for about 4 months untill last night when in the middle of playing a game it all froze up and then this mess started.

hello people!

unfortunatelly I`m having "same problems" as others..

actually few months I didn`t realize what`s causing the problem,

accusing every part in my comp ,except my fancy new SSD,in which

I belived blindly-reason -It`s corsair,and it`s to much expensive to have

issues..and I`m naive all my life and must admit little bit slow and stupid..

OK,anyway don`t have time and memory to try to paraphrase all that I came thru

(hell belive me),and came out with only solution-unplug my comp from el. source ,and then plug in-all works fine (24/7)..like the majority of us unfortunates,as I now realize on this forum (stupid me didn`t read it before i bought one...)

that is how I live last 3 months, better than before experimenting ,trying to find solutions and reasons for thousands of hours -until i get sick and ended up on medication (yea It`s true, and don`want to testify it anywhere else..)

specs of my comp is in my profile-yes I know my PSU is low because of graphic-I got it receantelly(I`m not a gamer,so I don`t push it)-much after buyed SSD,and soon gonna buy some stronger;

before I have not doubts;my choice was Corsair of course-now I`m not shure..

my SSD 60-is 2.0 firmware

and my question-what should I do?

I know it is a stupid question...read above about me..

and little bit more story on how much naive I am,and trust that I had in that SSD-

didn`t care about where I put my guarantee sheet (..found the bill..)

so as I know can`t ask for refund or replacement

Hula-Hula Bad Luck or Mr.Stupid Naive ??

-please answer me before deleting my post, don`t wanna open a new thread about this,I`m posting here cause my ssd is manufactured 2.0 firmware

Hi,

PROBLEM: I've the same problem on two VAIO E 17" Series laptop, the SSD is never detected on boot. When the error message appears, pressing CTRL+ALT+CANC will reboot the system and the SSD will be detected and will boot normally.

Swapping the SSD and the normal hard drive (or leave only the SSD) has no effects, the problem remains. All drives are in AHCI mode.

These are the specifications of the two VAIO E systems:

- Vaio E Series n°1:

HD1[OS]: Corsair F240 FW 2.0

HD2: Seagate 7200.4 500 GB

Optical drive: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7700H ATA Device

OS: Windows 7 Professional x64

MB: Vaio E Series (Intel HM55)

CPU: Intel Core i5 520M

Memory: 6 GB total. 1x4GB Samsung M471B5273CH0-CF8, 1x2GB Power Quotient MFCBG421PA0101

Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 (512 MB)

BIOS: AMI bios, version R0300Y8 (is the latest from Sony)

- Vaio E Series n°2:

HD1[OS]: Corsair F240 FW 2.0

HD2: Seagate 7200.4 500 GB

Optical drive: MATS HITA DVD-RAM UJ890AS

OS: Windows 7 Professional x64

MB: Vaio E Series (Intel HM55)

CPU: Intel Core i7 M640

Memory: 6 GB total. 1x4GB Samsung M471B5273CH0-CH9, 1x2GB Elpida EBJ21UE8BFU0-DJ-F

Thank you!

Ever since I installed Windows 7 SP1 I had a BSOD (F4) each time my laptop wakes up (comes out of sleep mode). I upgraded the firmware on my SSD (=boot disk) to 2.0, but I can't see any difference.

- Wake-up from hybernation works fine, so that is a good workaround

- There are no other issues during boot or otherwise.

- I have AHCI enabled (AS SSD benchmark says msahci OK).

- My bios has no options to control wakeup events.

BTW, updating the firmware changed the order of the disks (I have two in my laptop) in the BIOS. Needless to say that my heart skipped a few beats when I restarted and got the message "no operating system found" ;-). Anyway, quickly fixed...

Faulting drive is F120 120GB.

Problem: BSOD when resuming from S3 sleep, on both my machines.

Not 100% understanding when this happens, as i actually had a few successfull wake-ups from sleep BEFORE installing SP1 for windows 7 x64. After installing it just BSODs all the time. This goes for machine #1. On #2 it always BSODs when resuming from S3 sleep.

Thing I´ve tried: EVERYTHING! ALL different combos of drivers I´ve found, different SATA-cables, two different computers (See specs below), Intel and Marvell controller on machine #1, hundreds of different combos of settings in BIOS for power saving, memory etc. You name it, I´ve tried it.

Machine #1 has actually been rather stable since I got my replacement drive in february (first F120 died all together, couldn´t be found by BIOS) until a few weeks ago when it really got messy.

Machine #1: GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD3 BIOS F11, I7 860, CORSAIR FORCE 120GB FW 2.0, SAMSUNG 1TB, CORSAIR 4GB XMS3, GIGABYTE HD6970, Corsair HX 750W.

Machine #2: Acer 6920G with Mobile Intel PM965 Express Chipset.

Issues:

-SSD never detected (even in BIOS) on cold boot. ctrl+alt+del is the only way to boot

-Unable to wake from S3 sleep 100% of the time: desktop, previous apps may load but system is non-responsive and after ~10s, the screen goes black and system either reboots or remains in "no video" state.

System:

Acer Aspire TimelineX 3830TG-6412

BIOS: 1.05 (latest as of today) but problem also occurred with 1.04

CPU: Intel i3 2310

RAM: 2x 2 GB ******** DDR3 10600

SSD: Force F120 2.0

Vid: Intel HD 3000/ nV GT 540M (optimus)

OS: Win7 HP x64 with all latest updates

AHCI enabled in BIOS and Win. Problem occurred with stock win7 installation driver, Intel RCT from Acer (10.1.2.1004) and latest from intel (10.6.0.1022).

No pagefile and hibernation disabled.

Drive also tested on another system (with an Asus P5Q Pro mobo, intel Q9450, 8GB ******** Plat RAM, 640GB WD Blue, ATI 4870 1GB, etc.) and caused NO POST on cold boots. Threw an odd error about USB mass storage overcurrent (with no USB devices attached- this drive causes it). Never tested it as a boot drive on this system so can't comment on sleep issues. /system2

EDIT: Tried the registry mod suggested by Toasted @ http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showpost.php?p=510636&postcount=8 and it had no effect. I previously did not have the drive under the "removable drive" list, so it was probably in this state before.

Another bit of info: the drive seems to survive being "turned off" as part of the power savings profile (turn off hdds after ___ mins), just not waking up from S3 sleep or a cold boot. It seemed to me like the drive just took too long to initialize. I had a similar problem (waking from sleep not at POST) with a WD Green 1.5TB drive and a MS Hotfix remedied the issue on that system. I applied it to the affected laptop but it didn't take, so it seems like that wasn't it. The relevant KB article is http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977178

BOSD after sleep mode (S3).

Waking from S1 is ok.

Spec:

MB: Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H, BIOS F5 (last stable)

CPU: AMD PhenomII 720 BE

Mem: ADATA 8GB (kit 2x4GB) 1333MHz, 1.6V

VGA: Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 5850 1GB

HDD1: Corsair Force F60 SATA Port 0

HDD2: WD 640GB Black SATA Port 1

No optical drive

PSU: Seasonic M12II 430W

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium x64

All drives running with AHCI.

Drivers: AMD SATA Controler, 11.11.2010, 1.2.1.275; EDIT: AMD SATA Controler, 15.4.2011 1.2.1.296

Tested also with default MS AHCI driver with same result.

Memory is running at manually set voltage.

Bios has no Quick Boot option to set to disabled/false.

Tried multiple cables/vendors/lengths with no positive result.

Exchanged F60 with old WD 160GB drive (Acronis TI Clone), tested sleep and waking, without changing any other thing. No BOSDs. Changed F60 back, and BOSDs happen again.

Currently forced to use sleep to S1, not happy with it :/

Edit: Flashed motherboard BIOS to F6E, no change at all. BOSD when waking from S3, ok waking from S1.

Contact Gigabyte. They've released multiple beta BIOSes to fix issues with their boards and SSDs.

I actually received a beta bios for my GA-P55A-UD3 at no luck.

Still BSODs.

However, since I switched to an Intel 510 I´ve never been happier!
