Quantico
Hi, I have a system with Asus Rampage Extreme, Intel Core Quad9650 3.00GHz, Ati Radeon 4870 x2 and Windows 7 64bit. I want to upgrade my RAM from 4GB to 8 GB. Actually I have (4x1) KVR1333D3N9/1G ******** 1GB 1333MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM. I used the configurator tool from the corsair web site and I found that the following memory is ok for my motheboard: Model Brand CORSAIR Series DOMINATOR Model CMP4GX3M2A1600C8 Type 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM Tech Spec Capacity 4GB (2 x 2GB) Speed DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Cas Latency 8 Timing 8-8-8-24 Voltage 1.65V When I tryed to buy this memory in italy I found that many website indicate it for usage with i5/i7 processor and, in addition, this memory is not reported in the QVL of the asus rampage (may be because it is new). Is this memory ok for my system? Can you advice me about a better one? Thanks in advance
trackrat
The Rampage Extreme is in the Corsair memory selector. The link below shows the current RAM tested and approved specifically for that mobo. The CMP4GX3M2A1600C8 is approved for your mobo in addition to i3/i5/i7 CPU/mobos. http://www.corsair.com/configurator/product_results.aspx?id=652836

Please help me to clarify the following points 1. I have Intel Core Quad9650 so I can't use CMP4GX3M2A1600C9, is it correct? 2. If I can use it, can I upgrade to 8GB using two set of CMP4GX3M2A1600C9 (4GB)? If CMP4GX3M2A1600C9 is not OK for my system please can you advice me about a nice upgrade to 8Gb with Corsair products. Thanks again
Wired
1. Since that's a 1333 MHz FSB CPU, you can only run the memory @ 1333 MHz unless you overclock. 2. Not recommended or guaranteed. CMX8GX3M4B1333C9 is listed.
trackrat
If you want 8 GB. you might try the CMX8GX3M4B1333C9 RAM kit which is approved for your mobo. Don't try to use two RAM kits as this rarely ever works properly and never at the frequency or latency ratings for two DIMMs.
Quantico
Thanks friends, I am ordering the CMX8GX3M4B1333C9 (4x2GB) as you recommend. A last question are you sure that doesn't exist an upgrade to 8GB with a faster memory for future overclocking of my system? Thanks again
trackrat
I can't answer that. Maybe RAM GUY can?
