2X V550 rebooting problems

I've bought a new computer in pieces where the Power Supply is a Corsair VX 550.

The computer rebooted randomly without any blue screens or strange log messages. I changed to another PSU that I have in a HTPC and everything worked fine, so I returned the VX550 to my dealer to get it exchanged. In 2,5 weeks I used the other PSU and the computer never rebooted. After almost 3 weeks I received a new VX550, installed it in the computer and it started to reboot again.

I'm not really interested in returning the PSU one more time to get a third. What shall I do?

I've bought the PSU from the swedish dealer Misco.

The problem is exactly the same as described in the following thread:

Are you able to test the PSU in a different system to see if the problems are following the PSU? There either has to be a problem with both PSUs or there could be a compatibility issue. The only other possibility is that our PSU is detecting a problem and shutting itself down, whereas the other PSU is not picking it up. If you have not tried it, I would make sure that you have the latest BIOS for the motherboard, and load setup defaults in the BIOS.

Hi

Thanks for the answer, I just got it back from the supplier for more extensive testing on my own. I'm testing it in another system right now, but if it works fine in that system, what kind of incompatibility can it be?

What kind of signals can the power supply receive that makes it rebooting, that the other PSU does not pick up. Is it the motherboard sending those signals out?

There could be a component which is causing a short or grounding out somewhere. If the PSU works fine in a different system, then I would strip your main system down to the barebones and then add the components back one at a time until you can find out which device may be causing a short.

If you still get the same problems running with a barebones configuration, then you may want to remove the mobo from the case and bench test, to rule out any issues with the way the board is mounted.
