logcomptechs
Just got a F60 today, installed windows 7 and it is only showing 6.75 gig free? Can anyone help me out?
Synbios
Check Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management to see if there is an unallocated portion.
logcomptechs
Just see the C: drive and it says 6.75 free of 55, no idea what is going on.
Synbios
Yeah if it says 55 then it's there it's just not formatted.
logcomptechs
I just installed a fresh copy of windows 7 and formated the hard drive, so how could it not be formated?
Yellowbeard
I would suggest fully removing all partitions on the drive, then a secure erase with Parted Magic, and then reinstall the OS.
Synbios
I just installed a fresh copy of windows 7 and formated the hard drive, so how could it not be formated? Well I'm not sure exactly but from it sounds like there may be multiple partitions on the drive, what I'm saying is there may be an unallocated portion of the drive that is not formatted. Show us a screenshot of disk management and I will tell you for sure, but you may have to do what Yellowbeard has suggested. If you just recently installed windows then it might not be a bad idea since you won't lose very much.
logcomptechs
**UPDATE So I finally was able to secure erase it. I deleted all partitions and formated the new partition as NTFS and installed windows 7 again. Now it is saying I have 6.84 free of 55.8?
Synbios
Can you show us a screenshot of Disk Management?
logcomptechs
It is a healthy partition, there is no unallocated space. I messed around with the virtual memory was able to free up 30 gigs. Still can not update tho, it says no device in the SSD Updater.
Synbios
So you actually used 30 gigs for virtual memory and you thought something was wrong with the drive? Now you're trying to update the firmware? That's a completely different issue. If the drive is not being detected you need to make sure that you're running AHCI, also right click the program and run as administrator. Even if your account is administrator in windows 7 you still have to do that. If that doesn't work then you have to use a live windows environment since sometimes the drive will not show if it is being used as a system drive. You should have updated the firmware before you installed windows but never mentioned that.
logcomptechs
I had no idea that it was using 30 gigs of virtual memory, and I will give what you said a shot, thanks.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted November 12, 2010 Corsair Employee Share Posted November 12, 2010 And in some cases some have had to secure erase the drive or delete all the partitions except one to do the update.
logcomptechs
Just was able to update :) but had a question, should I be running this drive on sata 3.0 or 6.0?
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted November 12, 2010 Corsair Employee Share Posted November 12, 2010 S-ATA II / ATA 300 would be what the drive is compatible with.
Synbios
The drive is sata 3.0 and running it on 6.0 will offer no advantages, in some cases it will actually be slower if your board has a JMicron sata 6.0 controller. From what we've seen it's better to use the drive with intel controllers which is most likely your sata 3.0. I'm assuming your board is an asus rampage 3 but it really could be anything, the same statement above applies.
