X128 no longer usable, drive name YATAPDONG??

HI, i've had my X128 drive since januari 2010 and it has been working like swiss clockwork. Yesterday my Windows 7 (x64) wouldn't boot and the drive has changed name to YATAPDONG BAREFOOT-ROM and seems to be not formatted.... I looked in some threads and the recommended action is RMA

What has happend to the drive??

I would like to get my data back from the drive and if possible fix it myself without RMA it back to you (as you either replace the drive or reformat it)

Is it possible to put new firmware into the drive to recover and still have my partition usable as they were?

Plz advise

Regards

You are welcome to try and do the firmware update that is posted but in most cases the data will be lost.

And the only recourse will be to RMA the drive and I am sorry there will not be any way we can recover the data.

To request the RMA please use the link on the left and we will be happy to replace it.

Thanks for the reply,

there seems to be two versions(?) of the disk, how can i find if i have the Corsair X128 or the CORSAIR X128.

Can the serial number be of any help to find that out?

Do you know what's wrong with the disks that suddenly drops the name CORSAIR to become a YATAPDONG disk instead?

regards

I don't have the drive but when I was reading some old posts it may happen when you change the jumpers on the drive. When it becomes YATAPDONG that is some sort of flashing state. Search YATAPDONG and you should be able to find the older threads about it.

Hi, the disc (and jumpers) are untuoched, the failure just happened....

If there is a way to "reflash" the drive please direct me to that thread or to some other explanation or solution if there is any

There are hundreds of posts and numerous of threads about this but there is NO explaination to why this is happening and no one (as far as i've read) that tried to recover the disc to its original flash software.

Everyone sees to RMA instead.... (easiest way i suppose)

to RAM GUY: Do you have any idea why this is happening, there's a lot of people that is affected by this??

Hi again. Now i've tried FW-upgrade and its not possible to execute due because the correct name for the disc drive is not found. Tried both lower/upper firmware.

I have also tried a disc recovery tool to see if it could find anything, No Success there either.

Q1: Is it possible to recover the disc to usable state at all ?

or is "dead" so to speak as a Corsair X128 drive?

Q2: If i would like to RMA the drive, will you send me a new or do you install factory firmware on to the faulty drive and return it?

Q3: Is it possible for me to use some other tool to load Corsair firmware on to the drive when it is in YATAPDONG mode (whatever mode that is..)?

Can you plz reply and give info on what to do when i want to RMA my drive

Regards from megasen
