red123
I recently got a SSD so I now have 3 internal hard drives including the SSD for my PC. Ever since I switched to the SSD, I have been noticing that my speakers have been making strange grinding noise between random intervals. I noticed that my HDD activity light flashes whenever it happens. I did some troubleshooting by removing both of my internal hard drive so I am only with my SSD and I did not notice the noise for the whole day. I then plug in 1 other hard drive so I have 2 hard drives plugged in. I did not notice anything. So, I unplug the current hard drive and plugged in the other one in combination with my SSD. Again, I did not notice such noise. After I plugged all of my hard drives back in, the noise came back in random interval. This is noticeable when I am listening to music or am doing something that has sound. The noise occasionally comes with a computer freeze of less than a second so it is not really that noticeable. Anyone know what is up with my computer? I posted on techsupportforum.com and someone suggested that maybe there is something wrong with my PSU and said I should post it on this forum. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 13, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 13, 2010 Have you tried using a different power cable for the drives? Or if you have each drive plugged into a separate cable does it still give you the same problems?
red123
I tried switching the wires and still the same problem. Unfortunately, I do not have another PSU to test.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 17, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 17, 2010 Request an RMA If it looks like replacing the PSU may help narrow down the possibilities then we can give that a try, but its hard to say with confidence that the issue is definitely coming from a faulty PSU. red123
If I do an RMA, then this would be the second time within 4 months since I bought my PSU. I really do not want to pay for the shipping again >.< . Anyway, I am going to troubleshoot this problem some more seeing if the problem occurs with only 1 or 2 HDD connected at a time. I tested the other SATA power cable from the PSU and it had the same problem.
