sblantipodi
Can you tell me why the johnny guru sample of the AX850 is not gold please? http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story5&reid=197 You sell this PSUs as gold, why it didn't reached the gold standards? Thanks.
Wired
Who knows, they'd have to analyze that specific unit to find out. An RMA would fix the issue regardless. If we look at test 3, 5 and 8 (20%, 50% and 100%), we can see that we just missed the 80 Plus Gold criteria (87%, 90%, 87%) with this unit. Instead, we have very respectable silver performance. The numbers are so close, it's barely worth mentioning. Different variables come into play that could cause the efficiency to be slightly different between my unit and the one that 80 Plus tested, such as how the loads are distributed across the rails or how well the connection is between the modular cables and the PSU body or the connection between the connectors and the load tester itself. An RMA would fix the issue regardless. not many people got the instruments to check it itself since the unit isn't "damaged" and it works correctly its very strange that it can't reach the gold standards since it is supposed to. Wired
Nothing is 100%, and the warranty covers anything that doesn't meet spec.
sblantipodi
Nothing is 100%, and the warranty covers anything that doesn't meet spec. I would like to know if the johnny guru sample was "unlucky" or if it is something that happen with this psus.
Wired
Reading into Jonny's comment a bit, I'd have to guess it was just an unlucky unit if it was bad at all. He stated it could simply have been the connection between the PSU and the unit itself.
Yellowbeard
I would like to know if the johnny guru sample was "unlucky" or if it is something that happen with this psus. Jeremy still has the sample. You'll need to ask him. Also, we sell these as Gold cert'd because we submitted them to the 80+ people and they said it meets the standards. Synbios
Well that's interesting! It seems that some of my efficiency numbers have gone UP! Hmm.... I guess the AX850 needs breaking in just like a high performance racing engine. Perhaps this?

Yellowbeard
Jeremy = OKWolf who is a reviewer at JG. However, it seems that Jon aka JonnyGURU did this review. If you have questions about the review, you'll need to ask him as he performed the testing and we do not ask for PSUs back after a review. So, the JG site should still have the PSU also.
