F60 ok speeds??

Hi, just bought this F60 about 3 days ago and it seems to be the max I can get out of them. I have seen some people posting they can get 280/270 reads/writes but for the life of me I top out with whats shown. I can't run AHCI drivers as this lovely Nforce mobo doesnt have the option to.

Anyways if anyone has any ideas it would be great, thanks for any help.

It's not just AHCI. Unfortunately the Nvidia chipsets are getting a bit dated and simply do not have the performance of the current Intel controllers. And, the current AMD controllers are better than the Nvidia with respect to drive performance but are a bit behind the Intel's also.

If you plan to keep your AMD CPU, I'd get the newest chipset that you can that will accomodate your CPU.

So basicly a AHCI driver helps that much?

What AMD motherboard would you recommend, I guess I'll have to update the CPU and Memory also since there seems to be very few choices in AM2 mobos at the moment.

None right now, even the core2quad generation of CPU/motherboard (socket 775) with the ICH07R can get maximum speeds of the Force drive. :D:

Well bummer!! So I did the flash to 2.0 and it appeared to slow my drive down and make it very inconsistant. I let it sit over 5 hours logged off and another 5 hours idling at desktop waiting for the "trim" fairy to show up and help maybe put my speeds back up.....but notta!

So I did a secure erase and reinstalled windows fresh and again let it sit hoping the "trim" fairy would show up and still speeds were still down to 218r/208w pretty sad really. Nothing else changed, same IDE microsoft driver.

So I got to thinking and realized I don't want to have to deal with this NEEDY freaking SSD anymore, all I was doing is worrying about putting to many files on it or if the "trim" fairy was doing its thing or not. Anyways I said I'm done with it and back to the store it went and got 2 500g 32mb cache hdds and set up raid 0 so I can fill them up and not give a crap cause they can take it!!

Yes I noticed a speed difference in some places but in others not so much, the speed difference wasnt worth it to ME to be dealing with the "trim" fairy or worring about space or dealing with the inconsistency of this drive or any other SSD.

I'm not saying one bad thing about Corsair either, they have been helpful and there's alot of knowledge here. I'm talking about my experiance with a SSD.

Anyways thanks for the help but I'm gonna wait alot longer before I even think about buying another SSD or any SSD for that much.

Although the sustained transfer rates of two HDDs in RAID 0 is pretty good, their random write, read, and seek times are A LOT worse. Firmware 2.0 doesn't slow down the drive at all, and you shouldn't really use IDE drivers with it. SSD work best in AHCI.

If you're going to wait until SSDs "get better", you might as well wait until SLC SSDs become more mainstream and affordable.

I use my drive as much as I want and the speeds have been fairly consistent. I never worry about it slowing down and I let TRIM do it's thing. You shouldn't have to worry about your drive slowing down or thinking in the back of your head "I can't download this file, it's going to slow down my drive!" Just use it to your heart's content.

I agree with Synbios here I have SSD's but not in every system I have at home and I am always running my wife off of my system cause its faster than hers the only real difference is mine has an SSD as the boot drive.

However, I do understand what you are saying jon670 they do require a bit more "playing with" but its well worth the extra effort, however I do not do any thing with mine out of the ordinary just use it and limit the applications that get installed to it. Just make sure any applications get installed to the second spinning HDD.

Booting to a desktop in 10-15 seconds is hard to beat and even with the fastest spinning Raptors that was always at least 45 Seconds or more.

You might try testing the drive on another system to be sure maybe there is something wrong with the drive.

Thanks for the replys!

RAM GUY...I already took it back and no longer have it. I returned it and got 2 black 500g 32mb cache drives and put them in raid 0 getting 198r/190w with them in ATTO so I'm cool with that and tons of room.

I will say the F60 was alot faster mainly from the access time, but not worth the hassle I was getting from the SSD. I'm pretty sure it was my hardware that was causing most of my issues. Like you said the Nforce 570 is a slacker for sure.

I'll try them again when they are cheaper and get more GB for the money and AMD Motherboards step it up a few more notches.

Thanks for all the help though you two!!
