Bao
I bought CMX8GX3M4A1600C9 memory kit that is suppose to run 1600Mhz 9-9-9-24. When I installed the memory modules, I did set those settings in bios. Then I ran memtest86+ and I got about 6000 errors and also windows crashes within half a minute after boot. The errors disappear if I drop ram frequency down to 1333Mhz. I know there are sometimes problems running 4 modules at high speeds, but if I buy 1600Mhz kit that has 4 modules does that mean that I should be able to run all 4 modules at 1600Mhz? Is there some voltage in bios of my motherboard that I could increase to make the modules run at 1600Mhz without errors?
Bao
I can make those 4 sticks at 1333Mhz and even with timings 8-8-8-21 1T, but for some reason it doesn't work at all when I try 1600Mhz. It boots, but windows crashes with blue screen and I get thousands of errors in memtest86+. I even tried increasing NB voltage, but increasing voltage just increased the amount of errors in memtest. Is this some kind of compatibility problem with motherboard or is there something wrong with the ddr3 modules? If I only install 2 of the modules, they work fine in 1600Mhz, but not with all 4 installed. I thought that if I buy 1600Mhz kit, I can also run the whole kit at 1600MHz. Can anyone help? trackrat
That RAM has a listed voltage of 1.65 V to run @ 1600 MHz. 9-9-9-24, 2T. You would need to set this manually in BIOS as DDR3 RAM default voltage is 1.5 V. Check the label on your RAM to confirm the correct voltage. Your CPU has a default RAM frequency of 1333 MHz. so that is why all works well at the OE specs/voltage. Increased voltage(s) may be required to run stable @ 1600 MHz.? Some mobos won't run RAM in all four slots overclocked. Make sure that your mobo is capable and also use the latest BIOS. http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=33911
Bao
1600Mhz 9-9-9-24 2T 1.64V were the first settings I tried. I have to choose between 1.64V and 1.66V in bios because there is no 1.65V as an option there. Voltage monitor in bios shows memory voltage as 1.66V even when I have chosen 1.64V in bios. Like I said I got alot of errors in 5th test in memtest86+ and windows crashes almost immediately. After that I also tried increasing NB voltage gradually by 0.2V increments and at each NB voltagege increase the amount of errors in 5th test of memtest86+ increased gradually too. At default NB voltage of 1.3V I get about 2000 errors and at NB voltage of 1.5V I got about 12500 errors, so at least that wasn't helping.
