H50 Buzzing H70 Better?

Recommended Posts

I bought this unit back in April 2010 And did not experience any buzzing noises that users were pointing out. Until Now. Checked to see if it was from a different fan or hardware. Unplugged the pump for a second and it was gone.

Tried to set the h50 in a different angle. Had it 45 Degree pointing towards the radiator mounted on the back. Checked the backplate/ tightening and loosening the screws. However if i press down on the h50 logo the pump Buzzing Noise starts to quiet. I do realize that H50 have buzzing noises But the output of the noise truly makes my computer annoyingly loud.

(High pitch buzzing noise)

All fans use noctuas Ultra silent adapters.

HX 750 is silent

video card is silent

SSD.

Temps are 24 idle 45 load.

(Its not the coil noise)

Computer is located in a 4x4 bedroom under desk and i am 3 feet away

Is my h50 pump giving way? And is the h70 A better silent solution excluding their dual fans. What are your suggestions

Don't care about performance or fans. Just Silence.

(Note I know there's posts on the buzzing. But Im looking for suggestions in my situation.)

Thanks!

I had a H50 and it started having a similar issue after about ~6 months of use. I RMA'ed it, then got a brand new one. The one I got is actually worst than my old one. I hear a buzzing noise all the time. It's the only thing I hear when the PC is idle. It sounds like a lamp with 50% of power: it makes a little resistor sound.

Now, this is worst with the new unit, I got it last week. Corsair refused me to pay shipping costs or to cross ship a new unit; I had to wait almost 5 weeks before receiving a new unit and I paid ~$20 for shipping (which is half the price I've paid for the unit).

I'm starting to be a lot disappointed. It looks like one pump out of two has this problem. I don't know, I might end up selling it to a friend and buying something else (CoolIT units look good too). I don't want to be stuck with the Intel stock cooler for another month, my 3.8 GHz Q9550 would need to be downclocked again.

Sorry for my English by the way, I'm French canadian. The language-barrier prevents me to express how disappointed I am.

Hmmm I would try to avoid rma as much as possible. Hence me looking at the h70. or the A70.

Right now i am using a noctua L.N.A adapter to reduce the noise of the pump by decreasing the pump. However is it safe to run it at 900 rpm? instead of 1400 rpm? My computer is usually on idle. And my temps right now are 26 C lowest core and 32 highest core. Will the pump fail if its too low?

Thanks for the replies. And 5 weeks is a very long time. I would just buy another h50 instead of rma's XP

Well, even with the pump at 800-900rpm, I'm still having the same noise. And I know the pump to be less efficient with less voltage (obviously). But if you don't care about performance... well, the Corsair guy will probably be able to give you an answer as whether it may or may not damage the pump in long-term use.

I wouldn't be avoiding RMA if I wouldn't have gotten a so bad experience. I have received only one email telling me they would contact me in the next days for a diagnostic; I finally got nothing but a new H50 ~3 weeks after (sent from China). Not to mention that another $20 shipping cost combined with my first RMA would be enough for me to buy another great cooler.

I had better service with ASUS, they sent me prepaid postage box for my 8800 Ultra VGA card and gave me a brand new GTX260 the week after. I will probably try contacting Corsair again to see if there is any chances to get something good to avoid another $20 fees and 5 weeks delay. It would be fabulous if they could cross-ship a H70 and let me keep for example the 120mm PWM fan on my H50 as a compensation for another $20 shipping fees :D ... let's dream lol.

Hi,

For what it's worth, I too RMA'd an H50 for the same buzzing sound described. It was certainly the noisiest component in my new system and the replacement H50 was slightly noisier than the one I had replaced. Out of frustration, I found that if I wrap my hand around the pump, it helps to quiet the buzz/clicking noise. I will soon try wrapping the pump unit with tape or another insulating material before I give up on the H50 entirely. I am, however, pleased with the cooling performance of the H50. I will post any progress/improvements I make with the H50 regarding the silencing of this annoying problem.

Yeah I guess the Rma is worth a try. It was completely silent with the adapter on at 900 Rpm. But I lack the thermal paste when i put it on had only enough.

However at one point on idle right after turnning on. I got 77C on all cores Lol.

Not recommended for 900 rpm id say. Maybe its cause i only have 1 fan exhausting at 900 rpm (Noctua fan)

Either way I heard the pump gets louder in the long run if it creates air bubbles inside. I remember at first i hear many air bubbles at first installation. Its running at 1400 Rpm now and it stil has a buzz.

Do you guys think its the same for corsair h70 pump? or even for Coolit?

We exactly got the same trouble I think. When I slightly press the Corsair logo, it looks fine. I am still really disappointed, I would like to get my cash back but it's too late.

  • 2 weeks later...
I just installed the H70 in my Rosewill Challenger case mounted with the tubes at the top with air blowing out. The fans are quite quiet, but the pump is a bit loud. Not bad, but sounds like slightly elevated fan noise. My case has so much mesh and holes so it doesn't have much sound dampering. I'm looking for something to dampen my pump noise. I wonder if some sort of sound dampening insulation would work? I think something that would cut the sound by 10db would work.
