DruNKfuX
I currently have a 6GB kit TR3X6G1333C9 in my Asus Rampage Extreme II and would like to double that but cannot find the same kit anymore. Does the CAS7 kit (TR3X6G1333C7) work together with my CAS9 kit for a total of 12GB on the Rampage Extreme II ?
Wired
There's no guarantee when mixing parts regardless of part number.
DruNKfuX
I know there's no guarantee when mixing different parts, but tbh that's not what i asked, no flame intended... Anyone else with a conclusive answer or someone who has tried this combo?
Wired
That's the thing, no one can give you a conclusive answer. Theoretically speaking you should be able to get CAS 7 memory to run at CAS 9 no problem, but you're still running a high chance of mixing ICs, and maxing out the memory controller. Even if you get matched ICs, that's still not a guarantee (but yes, it should help a bit). IC manufacturers are denoted by the version number, but there's no guarantee that 2 runs of the same IC would be compatible together. Trying's ultimately the only way to know. Just keep in mind that you may have to bump up the memory voltage and lower the memory speed to get stability. What's your ultimate goal, 12 GB @ 1333? trackrat
OP- No one can give you a "conclusive answer". It may work on one mobo and not on another of the same model - especially with Asus who is known to have memory compatibility issues and significant variations between mobos. The probability of it working at all is very unlikely IMO.
DruNKfuX
Ok, so to know for sure i get 12GB working i'll sell this kit and buy a 12GB kit with matching ic's etc. Thanks for your help Wired and trackrat, much appreciated.
