SugarHooves
Hi, Have a Voyager 8Gb that I originally got about 9 months ago while on Win XP SP3. While inserted into a USB connection, whether an original connector on the back of my Intel i7 920 with 8Gb of RAM or a front of the box USB connection or any sort of USB cable coming out of a back of the box or front of box, the computer/Win XP SP3 would lock up upon restart. The Voyager works just fine when inserted after the computer is up and running but too much a pain to remember each time to remove it before restart or shutdown and all that. I searched this forum and web with no help or suggestions that solved problem. I gave up, buying an OCZ Rally2 8Gb that worked and continues to work with no issues. I recently upgraded to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and thought I'd try the Voyager 8Gb again. No go, same issue. WHile remaining inserted during restart the computer/Windows 7 locks up immediately just as the restart/startup has begun. The OCZ Rally2 continues to work unimpeded. Ideas? Suggestions? to help get this Voyager 8Gb to work properly. Thanks. John
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 29, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 29, 2010 Check the boot order on the MB BIOS setup to be sure it is not putting the flash drive in the Boot menu and trying to Boot from it. Other wise you can request an RMA from the link on the left and we will be happy to replace it.
SugarHooves
Hi, Received my RMA replacement 8Gb Voyager yesterday. Unfortunately, the same issue issue as previously reported with the first 8Gb Voyager I purchased. Long story short, after much web searching, I finally found the right combo of words that identified a user with a similar problem and suggested solutions at Tom's Hardware: "[solved] USB devices freeze computer" http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/267846-30-devices-freeze-computer#t1862820 The key solution wording that worked for me is from "Best answer by Bilbat" is with a key focus being on users, like me, of a Gigabyte motherboard. In my case a GA-EX58-UD3R with an Intel i7 920 CPU installed: "Go into the BIOS and, on the "Integrated Peripherals" page, your manual shows "Legacy USB storage detect", but later BIOS say "USB Storage Function" - either way, set to "Disabled"... This can be a problem, and the only time you need this enabled is if, on the next boot, you intend to either boot from a thumbdrive, or access one from the BIOS to do a flash or backup your CMOS parameters - once the OS has loaded USB drivers, it has no function, and is a known source of grief... " Worked like a charm when I followed the instructions and Disabled the USB Storage function. All is now as it should be in being able to fully use my Corsair 8Gb Voyager. Good luck. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 18, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 18, 2010 That would still suggest a BIOS issue and I would talk to the MB manufacture and see if they have a BIOS update to address that.
