Corsair Force F120 problems

Hi

Just got my drive today. Tried to install Ubuntu 10.10 on it, but during install the installer crashed with an error saying it couldn't write to the disk. Tried several times, but same error. Are there compability issues with this SSD and Linux?

The second problem I have is with HDDErase. I have of course set my BIOS to IDE Compability mode, but HDDErase comes with this message :

"This drive is in frozen status". The only way that worked for me was to power down my PC and unplug the SATA powercable, start the computer into DOS, plug the kable in again and then rerun HDDErase. Now it works. Why does this happen? Do I really have to open my case everytime I need to run HDDErase...?!

I read about a program called Parted Magic. Is that better? No frozen drive there I hope...

Win7 installs just fine, but not Ubuntu.....strange! Something wrong with my SSD or not?

I remember back when I used SuSE, while it is installing you can set it to display the kernel log while it is installing. Can you do this with ubuntu and have you tried this? See if there is a kernel power loss to the SSD, this is the error that some people were getting with the Force SSD that the new firmware will address.

If you are not getting this error then it may be something else. Perhaps somebody can shed some light on the "frozen" disk error.

Parted magic is worth a try and you can check the guide here: http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90648

I checked the link 'burebista' put here and I don't think Parted Magic would ignore "frozen status" either... I'm a Linux noob, so I don't know how to display the kernel log while it is installing. As I said Win7 installs just fine, so the SSD is not broken. Firmware issues that will be fixed with v1.2 I hope...

Corsair are you paying attention...

With regards to the "frozen" bug it is a general bug that occurs..I don't think it is the actual drive itself that is faulty. Unplug the power and data cable from the SSD then plug it back it and it will be unfrozen and ready to be secure erased by parted magic (this is what worked for me). Also shutting down the computer completely and unplugging the power cord seems to help as well.

It sounds like there's a strange incompatibility issue with the drive and ubuntu but I could have sworn I've seen other people running it, most people can install Windows with no problems on the drive.

Synbios I have even tried another SATA kable. Same thing. The only thing I haven't tried is to do a full CMOS reset on my motherboard.

As I said Win7 installs just fine, so the drive can't be broken. I will try to reset CMOS later and then try HDDErase and Ubuntu install once more. It that doesn't work I must wait for the 1.2 firmware.
