Verderf
Hey all :) Im switching my ocz gold 1600mhz cl8(4 rma's ><) mem to new corsairs (CMP6GX3M3A1600C8) And Im wondering if there are any timings I will have to do by hand in order to get the mem to run at 1600Mhz. To get my old ocz mem to run stable I had to set the voltage and timings manually, do I need to do the same for the new CMP6GX3M3A1600C8 or can I just set the speed to 1600mhz? Thanks In advance! trackrat
The default RAM speed on the i7-920 is 1066 MHz. You will need to manually set the BIOS settings to run the RAM @ 1600 MHz. http://www.intel.com/products/processor/corei7/index.htm The CMP6GX3M3A1600C8 has SPD values of 9-9-9-24 and has been tested to run 8-8-8-24 2T 1600 MHz. @ 1.65 V. Verderf
Hey Trackrat, Thanks for the quick response :) according to that I should use the XMP profile?
trackrat
XMP profile may or may not work but you can try it. There is never any guarantee with overclocking including the XMP profiles which are a best guess by Intel. Quote from the Intel XMP Profile website: "Δ Warning: Altering clock frequency and/or voltage may: (i) reduce system stability and useful life of the system, processor and other system components; (ii) cause the processor and other system components to fail; (iii) cause reductions in system performance; (iv) cause additional heat or other damage; and (v) affect system data integrity. Intel has not tested, and does not warranty, the operation of the processor beyond its specifications. Verderf
friend of mine recommended against the use of the XMP. So I guess I'll just try and set the mem to 1600mhz first and then try to manually set the timings, trfc and command rate if that fails.
