kevral
I have been having serious stability issues with my Crosshair IV Formula, and after having replaced the motherboard twice I think I have narrowed the problem down to incompatible or faulty ram. My hunt for compatible memory leaves me with a bit of a problem: Corsair has 2 different locations to look for compatible memory and Asus has their QVL list. And I can't see any memory modules that appear on all three lists, or even two. 1. Corsair lists "AMD Phenom II" memory, of which none are rated over 1333. 2. Corsair's Memory Configurator returns three results, of which only CMP4GX3M2C1600C7 is available in my country. None of these appear in the above Phenom II list. 3. Asus' QVL has a whole slew of Corsair memory, which don't seem to have any overlap with Corsair's lists and even includes a lot of triple channel memory. I have tried CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 which are on Asus' list. These give me random Memtest errors (sometimes a lot, sometimes none, with no apparent pattern) and also errors in Prime95 with large FFTs. Graphics drivers reset and PC bluescreens. I have now tried CMP4GX3M2B1600C8 which is Amd Phenom II rated according to the sticker on the pack, and the only such rated memory my local shop had. This is not on either of Corsair's above-mentioned lists, and the computer refuses to even POST with these. Now what do I do? Which of the three above authorities can I rely on? Wired
Use 1 and 2 together. Both are probably out of date, but at least they're correct. Asus's QVL regularly lists odd stuff like triple stick kits for dual channel motherboards. However when in doubt email / ask here what the best memory is. Then you've got a human from Corsair giving you an answer.
kevral
Right - yes, it would be smarter of me to ask for specific advice. :) Would someone be able to recommend me compatible ram for my IV Formula then? The following is the Norwegian importer's list of available Corsair ram: http://www.norek.no/k/kl.aspx?bn=11209&mfr=CORSAIR&filter=A00056.K235906. trackrat
The CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 is Intel approved but not AMD so it's no surprise that it did not work well. The CMP4GX3M2B1600C8 is AMD Phenom II approved and does work for everyone that I know of who has tried it on this forum. It is also what is in the PC I am using to type this post... Does your mobo have the latest Asus BIOS? It seems very unusual for your PC to not boot with the CMP4GX3M2B1600C8 RAM. Can you or your local PC shop try the RAM in another PC? Asus mobos have been known to have RAM compatibility issues in my experience.
kevral
Thanks for feedback! I have just now retested the CMP4GX3M2B1600C8 and it seems one stick is DOA and the other one works. I'll be taking the set back to the shop tomorrow, and expect they'll give me the option of swapping it for an identical set or ordering a different set altogether. Is there anything else you would recommend over this one?
trackrat
I chose that specific RAM because I felt it was a good performer at a good price. I'm running 1600 MHz. without any issues.
kevral
Well, I'd be willing to spend three times the price if only it works. I've been trying to narrow down this error for months of intermittent BSODs, having RMAd 3 motherboards.
kevral
Right. Testing at the shop concludes that both sticks of ram are in perfect order - so it must be another part that is failing.
