kb6183
Hello, I've determined that one of the three sticks in my TR3X6G1333C9 set is bad (trouble-shooting details follow - didn't want to wall of text you upfront). I just bought this memory and was wondering if I would be better off RMAing with newegg or Corsair? I'm concerned with turn-around speed and rebate implications. Thanks. I just put together a Sabertooth X58/I7-950/TR3X6G1333C9 system. I noticed the 4GB vs 6GB installed problem so went through all the steps of taking out the cpu and checking the pins with a magnifying glass, carefully reinstalling the Hyper 212 Plus, re-seating the RAM and manually setting the timings to 9-9-9-24-2T. Each time I would get 6GB on start, but after a reboot or two it would be showing 4GB again (CPUz showed 6 installed). I was going to try the stock cooler next, but started looking around at the info available via the ASUS utility PC Probe II and realized that it was not showing info for the stick in slot B1. I turned off the machine and swapped the Sticks in B1 & C1 then rebooted until 4GB was again showing; now PC Probe II did not see the stick in slot C1. I decided to run MEMTEST86+ overnight and every error on screen this AM appeared to be at the 4597.2MB position (I read the memtest info regarding the difficulty in using memtest to do more than indicate a general problem but this seemed relevant especially with the follow-on testing I did). I swapped B1 & C1 and reran the tests. All errors were now in the low 2xxx.xMB position (I forgot to write the number down). After many swaps of positions and numbers of sticks of RAM, the only time I had errors was when the stick I originally moved due to PC Probe indications was in the system. kb6183
Thanks for the reply Ram Guy. I spoke to NewEgg and due to the rebate time-line we decided to return the first set for a refund and place a new order for a second set; they were even kind enough to foot the bill for return shipping.
