BradTN
So guys I bought a F60 =D I have a few questions though, is there anything i should do when I first receive the drive in regards to firmware or anything like that ? and secondly I plan on buying another to put in raid 0, I am aware that Raid 0 currently does not support TRIM, I am planning on using that configuration for essentially just my OS and my main games, If I am not necessarily deleting items from my HD does TRIM matter? and if so whats the best alternative? Thanks for your time and help guys , much appreciated
Synbios
You can use CrystalDisk info to check the firmware on the drive. It might be shipped with version 1.1 but if it has 1.0 you can update it by using the links in the firmware update section. There's nothing wrong with running RAID 0 with two Force drives. In fact two Force drives seem to practically max out the bandwidth of a SATA II controller and I would highly recommend it. TRIM will not work in the RAID array as you have mentioned so I would certainly try to minimize the deletes on the drive. The Force drive might have garbage collection functions that go into effect once it's idle if TRIM is disabled but somebody would have to answer that question for sure. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 22, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 22, 2010 What MB will you be using? if it will be an Intel chipset the latest Intel chipset driver for RAID will include TRIM support. However if not you can use Diskeeper Professional with hyperfast to maintain the drives performance.
BradTN
I am getting the Gigabyte UD3R and by raid 0 i meant raid 0 with 2 F60's from my understanding i would lose trim support and the drives life span would degrade. Also I believe you are referencing the fact that with intel chip a SSD in raid with other regular HDs Ill be able to use TRIM? Im wondering what my options are for keeping the drives quality on par with TRIM if i do decide to raid 0 two f60's?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 23, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 23, 2010 ATM TRIM is not going to be supported with any RAID controller but the latest Intel driver is supposed to pass the TRIM command, you will just have to try it as I have not seen an official statement from Intel on this question other than its not officially supported. BradTN
yes but it is only going to be supported with a SSD and regular hd's in a raid array not just 2 SSDs from what i read. So i am wondering what can i do if i decide to run 2 f60's in raid 0 to compensate for the lack of TRIM
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 23, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 23, 2010 I have already answered that in my previous post. Or you may have to use software to image the drives and then use parted Magic to secure erase them and image them back like what is covered in the SSD FAQ. Posted By Ramguy However if not you can use Diskeeper Professional with hyperfast to maintain the drives performance.
BradTN
diskeeper professional looks great have you had any personal experience with it?
BradTN
So i went to put my f60 in my obisidian today, i followed the way this video had done it They have the SSD in the corsair tray which comes with the drive and then one of the hot swappable bays with the corsair tray slightly edged off the HSB i did this and when i tried to insert it back in the obsidian it clearly wasnt going in as it shouldve, I have since screwed in the corsair tray into the HSB so it is flush and it goes in perfectly , I do not have this computer up and running just yet but how do i know its making contact with the sata in the back? Is there another guide i should be following?
