Update your BIOS, there's a beta BIOS out from Gigabyte for some models to address issues with SandForce based SSDs.

thanks for your help

but I have allready update the last bios from gigabyte webpage of the mainboard,

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3449&dl=1#bios

the one you mean is unnoficial?

There is a beta BIOS available that was released to resolve some issues with SandForce based SSDs and some Gigabyte motherboards. See if your motherboard is listed below and check the release notes. The site is in German but the notes are in English.

FYI, this worked for me last week using a Gigabyte X58 UD7.

Use parted magic to secure erase the drive then make a 100 MB partition as recommended by RAM GUY. This should make the drive appear in the windows 7 installation.

Please run parted magic and secure erase the drive then create a 100 Meg partition then don't format it just create the partition and try the install again. With no other HDD's connected

tx for the tips.. ^^

i have just read this now afther using the ultimate cd..I deleted and formated the partition again and voila appears again in the instalation of win 7

the strange thing its suppose to be 120 gb but in the partition manager and another programs only appears as 110 gb withouth showing hidded partitions..where is the rest 10 gb?? O_O

for me its like crazy if everytime I get problems with the windows I need to take out the hd put in another machine..format and reinstall everything

lol afther seems goins fine and start to install windows suddedndly appears this error

"windows cannot install required files..... error 0x80070037"

problably now afther restart the machine will not recognice anymore the hd :P

I isntalled the same win 7 in another sata hd without no problem

its becosue I must let the hd non formated as RAM says..or this means more like the hd is wrong? and where are my 10 gb missisng?

too many questions sorry XD

... well more information about this hdd I put as second hd with another hd with the win7 SO, takes it at once, I saw had some files from the corrupted instalation of win 7, I tried to format with the own windows but just stop in the middle of the process becouse the hd just dissapear..this kind of hd cant not be formated under win 7 as a second hd?

I have down under win 7 a scandisk check didnt reported any wrong..I will do now a full chkdsk

well

afther doing the hole chkdsk stoped at 10% afther it I am not able to find the hd in anyway, not either in another pc, not either as an external usb hd...before I got to recognice the hd so I dont think its about bios configuration or anything else

so I am guessing the hd its wrong and will go to the shop to delivery back

txs for the help supported and good luck to the people that have this kind of problems

Hard drive manufacturers use the metric system definitions of the prefix Giga- meaning one billion. So they are literally giving you 120 Giga-bytes of data.

Windows actually uses an "old fashioned", 2^x scale for bytes which have been retro-defined as a Gibi- byte (Kibi-byte, etc), so there are 1024 bytes in a Kibibyte as opposed to 1000 bytes in a Kilobyte. 'The offficial' prefix for a Gibibyte is GiB but Windows refuses to conform to new standards and sticks to the old fashioned method in order to avoid confusion. Regardless whenever you see GB in Windows it's actually referring to Gibibytes.

This happens for ANY hard drive...

Let's go through an example:

120 Gigabytes = 120000000000 Bytes = 117187500 Kibibytes = 114440.918 Mibibytes = 111.758709 Gibibytes

When you're doing the calculation you have to down to raw bytes first then move your way up since there are 1024 bytes in a KiB. You can't do the conversion directly from GB to GiB unless you know the other factors.

Regardless, contrary to popular belief hard drive manufacturers are not ripping you off it is actually Windows that is reporting it incorrectly. Another common misbelief is that the lost space is for MBR/partition tables, etc. This is true to some extent but I don't think that data takes much more than a couple hundred kilobytes, if even that much.

Try secure erasing the drive again with Parted Magic. Then, don't make a partition, just let Windows 7 manage the partitions by doing a normal installation.

Also, are you in AHCI mode? IF yes, are you adding the Intel ACHI driver when prompted for controller drivers?

Win7 doesn't need AHCI drivers for the installation but it sure wouldn't hurt.

It did for me.

I was using a GB X58-UD7 with the latest release BIOS. The installation would not complete with either driver, WIN7 or Intel. I flashed to the beta BIOS and installation would not complete with the WIN7 driver. I finally got it to complete with the Intel driver.

I stand corrected, that's interesting and good to know. That might be cristina's problem especially since she's using what looks to be practically the same board.
