Corsair TX650W blew a mobo chip?

I just purchased a new Corsair TX650w psu for my system.

Opened the box, installed the pus and everything was working fine for about 20 minutes when i heard a pop and got the burning electrical smell coming from my computer. Quickly turning off the power I opened the case back up and didn't see anything wrong.

I removed the power supply and noticed that a chip on the mother board had blown. This was a system that had been up and running for a while with no problems until I replaced the psu which had gone bad.

I have given the entire rig up as a loss and am at this point just looking for what i should do now.

Thanks in advance

And for reference the attached picture shows the blown chip.

Make a search on the Internet for the keywords "motherboard blown MOSFET". You may change the blown component for a good one, however the blow could be just a symptom of the already damaged motherboard. You said that your previous PSU "went bad" -- this could take down your motherboard (or could not). You said that you wrote down your entire computer -- this means that you could not change your motherboard for a new one perhaps because your PC was an old one.

Probably want to be on the safe side and get the PSU replaced, but certainly what va1erian mentioned could be true. At any rate, I would contact the motherboard manufacturer to see if they can replace the board for you, and please Request an RMA from us to get the PSU replaced.
