MaxTC
Hello there! I have some questions: My PC made problems since I got it. It restarted by itself without providing any error messages frequently, in average at least one time a day. Recently it got much worse. So I decided to check my system. I made a RAM-test with Memtest86+ and it gave me 118 errors in two test iterations. So I assumed my main memory is damaged. Then I read that it also could be that the voltage for the memory is not set properly. So I looked into the BIOS and the RAMs have a voltage of 1.5 V at the moment. But I found a retailer on the net who is selling the same memory kit and the specification there says it works with 1.6 V. Other retailers tell they work with 1.5 V. So I am really confused now. I havent found some information about the proper voltage on the Corsair homepage which is really poor cause I would trust the specification of Corsair most but they do not provide this information in the specification? So what is the right setting for my memory kit? 1.6 V or 1.5 V? And in case it is 1.6 V, could it be that my system crashes because the memory is set at a wrong voltage value?? Thx in advance for your answers!
Wired
The voltage can vary depending on the version number. Look at the label on your memory and it will tell you the voltage you should use.
trackrat
Yes the incorrect RAM voltage can cause system errors.
MaxTC
Thx for your answers. So my kit says 1.5 V. So the settings in the BIOS were right. Does that mean that my memory is damaged?
trackrat
If you check each DIMM individually with Memtest 86+ and get errors then the RAM could be bad. You should also test both primary slots to be sure it isn't a mobo issue.
MaxTC
Sorry, I am not sure if I got you right. So you mean, I should test both sticks in both slots (DIMM1 and DIMM3)? I am a little bit confused because of that because I thought I am only allowed to use the DIMM1 slot if i use only one memory stick?
trackrat
If you are using only one DIMM it may only work on slot #1 depending on the mobo. Some mobos will allow a single DIMM to be in any of the slots but slot #1 is preferred. My point was if you could test slots #1 & #3 you could determine if there might be a memory slot issue vs. a RAM issue. If both DIMMs Memtest good in slot #1 they should be OK.
