pegrod99
Sabertooth x58 mobo. I assume the 3pin from the fans connects to the 4pin cpu_fan? If that is true, can I connect the 3pin pump to either the 4pin case fan 1 or the 3pin nb_fan? Obviously a noob question. Thanks for any answers. jetboy
You should be able to plug a 3pin pump plug into a 3 or 4 pin header as long as you don't have bios or software adjusting voltage or rpm. You want the pump to run full speed (about 1400rpm).
djmorgan
Yes connect the fan pin to the cpu_fan you will not be able to adjust fan rpm as it is only 3 pin. You can connect the pump to any other source but be warned turn off any mobo speed varaibility before you do. The pump should run at full speed (1400 rpm) ALL the time. pegrod99
Thank you for the help. This is a first time new build (not fired up yet). Should I assume that the cha_fan 1 and the nb_fan pins "will not" be restricted in the factory setting of the bios? Thanks again.
jetboy
Never assume. Check the bios on first boot and adjust them to run 100% at all times or just disable the bios from adjusting your fan speeds. While there, its a good thing to check rpms and temps before you completely boot up. If there is a problem, shut down early. Bios is the fastest option for this. pegrod99
jetboy, thanks for that. Sounds like sound advise
slimbrady
There are also operating system settings that can adjust speeds so if you're not feeling 100% comfortable that you'll be able to discover/disable all of them I would recommend using a 3pin to 4pin adapter, for the pump at least, and connecting it directly to the PSU. That will bypass any and all RPM regulators.
pegrod99
Thanks all, think I'll go the adapter route and end any worries.
Deedi
Check your Motherboard manual for all the fan headers. They will normally tell you if they are voltage controlled or not. I have a Gigabyte board and both my cpu and sys-fan headers are controlled, but the Northbridge (NB) isn't controlled.
