DarkStarrFOFF
I originally started with one kit of CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 ver3.2 and I recently got a second set of CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 but its seemingly older, its ver2.3. Does the version make a difference or no? I cant seem to get them running together very well and I cant seem to OC them either. No errors in memtest but I get random crashes fairly often. trackrat
The RAM you have chosen is tested and approved for Intel i5/i7 systems, NOT for AMD Phenom systems. The AMD Phenom approved memory is listed at the link below. http://www.corsair.com/products/phenomii/default.aspx Even if you had the proper AMD RAM for your PC, mixing of RAM kits is never guaranteed to work - even with identical memory module versions. Mixing of two different memory modules hardly ever works and is not recommended. You really need one tested, approved memory kit for your specific PC CPU/platform just to insure reliability at OE frequencies, without even thinking about overclocking. DarkStarrFOFF
I understand that but when you buy local you don't have every choice out there. Does version matter, and how can a newer set be an older version?
trackrat
Yes as explained above version matters and mixing of two kits is NOT guranteed to work and typically does NOT work, especially when the memory is two different versions. The DDR3 IC Inquiry information to the left of the page shows you which version modules have what ICs on the modules. A newer kit could have been shipped by Corsair to the PC industry supply channel months ago but only arrived at your RAM supplier recently. DarkStarrFOFF
No i mean my 1st set (my older set) is ver3.2 my recent purchase, and newest set is ver2.3 which doesn't make sense in that my older sticks are really newer than my new sticks. trackrat
The version number indicates what ICs are used on the module not when the module was produced. A version 3.x module has Micron 128Mx8 ICs and a version 2.x has Elpida 64/128Mx8 ICs. Corsair uses a variety of ICs all the time so you could have two kits with the same part number but two different version numbers because the modules in the kits use different ICs on them. http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68811
DarkStarrFOFF
seems odd since it would go by simple logic that newer sticks would be a later version not earlier. Anyways it seems that the ram timings were too tight for 2x4gb kits.
trackrat
The version numbers are NOT date sequential. They are simply a list of IC brands that Corsair uses to build their memory modules. When running memory in all slots vs. one or two slots, you always need to use slower frequency/latency timings to prevent errors.
