Survivor GTR 64GB - Dead within few days / blue led blinking continuously

I bought the SURVIVOR GTR 64GB a week ago, as an upgrade/replacement to my SURVIVOR GT 32GB, that just had become to small.

As the subject sais, I'm having a problem with my SURVIVOR GTR 64GB, which died / became useless after a few days of use.

The blue led is blinking continuously and the device is not recognised anymore.

I've tried with 3 different Vista computers and my Sony TV, all with same result.

Windows see it as a removable device (XXXXXX U168CONTROLLER USB Device), and when I try to access it, I get the message "Device empty: please insert device"

From reading other posts I can understand that this is a common problem with Corsair GTR, and the common advice is to RMA it.

As I see It, I have the choice of RMA it either to the reseller in Denmark where I bought It (http://www.happii.dk) or directly to Corsair, via the hub in the Netherlands.

First of, I don't think it's fair I have to pay for RMA delivery on a few days old devise, especially when it seems theirs a general problem with this product.

Luckily I haven't lost any data, that can't be reproduced, but my main concern now is data security, both in the future on a new SURVIVOR GTR, and on the dead one.

Future concerns will be, can I trust the data integrity on a Corsair GTR device?

Concerns right now, in regards to the RMA - How do I protect the privacy regarding the information that was on the device when it crashed?

The device included quite a bit of company confidential documents, and 10-15 GB of family pictures (nothing x-rated, but I still don't like to share private property).

I don't want any helpdesk/tech guy compromising the content, and I certainly don't want the data on a refurbished device on some shop shelf.

I tried "Synthohol" hint in the thread "Do you need total data destruction before RMA?" - But no luck The HxD program can't see the drive.

And a simple format, of course wont work either.

Is there any way of deleting the data, or how do I secure the privacy if the device is send to either the reseller or Corsair?

I sort of asked the same question when I applied for the RMA, but only got an automated response with a RMA number!

Best Regards

Dan

I had the same issue with a 64GB GTR containing confidential commercial data. Contact our customer service and they can help (basically give you permission to destroy the device before you return it).

FAO Corsair - Continually replacing these devices is not the answer  There seems to be an issue with these products - if they cannot be relied upon to serve the correct purpose they were purchased for then Corsair should either offer a refund or solve the issue and provide customers with reliable replacements.

Okay - With help from the DtMPTool, I rewrote the firmware and now Windows recognise the device...

After a format I used TrueCrypt to encrypt the entire flash - so now the data privacy is secured, I can continue testing.

(I formated the device again without any encryption)

The device seems to be working fine, but because I updated the firmware all values are wrong!

What are the correct values on a SURVIVOR GTR 64GB (CMFRRA64GBGT2) for:

Vendor Name:

Product Name:

Product Rev:

Manufacture:

Product:

Vendor ID:

Product ID:

Will it still be in my best interest to RMA the device, and should I do it now or wait until the device fails again?

download the usb flash recovery from http://www.silicon-power.com/support/su_dlc_sfe.php?currlang=utf8&css_1=2

it got mine back as a usb drive, doesnt show as a corsair any more. chance is it may be more stable :)

its now listed as a SPCC UFD USB Device, same capacity.

also hosted the DtMPTool http://downloads.rackage.com/Tools/IT1168_DtMPTool_v1.68.1.0l.rar

Unfortunately, this unit does not seem to be living up to its name. For the second time, with no rhyme or logical reason, my Survivor GTR 64GB Flash Drive has failed and is giving me the infamous "continually blue blinking LED". It will not register on my computer or any other. As before, I was using as a backup / transfer drive. I religiuosly remove it from the computer at the end of each day "by-the-book" with the "eject device" option. Yesterday, I inserted the drive as usual and knew that the same problem had fallen on this second drive when I saw the blue LED flashing continuously for more than five minutes. Just to be sure, I left the drive in all day yesterday and tried again today on several machines, getting the same result - The Flashing Blue LED.

Hey Corsair - Consider a logical explanation... Maybe the drive should not be encased in its water-proof, air-tight tube before cooling down ?? Maybe overheating could be the problem ??

Regardless, I would like to exchange this unit for a completely different model (The Patriot Xporter Magnum 128GB Hi-Speed, Super Hi-Capacity USB Flash Drive PEF128GMNUSB). I love the Corsair products and have never had a problem until now :)

Please Help Corsair,

Victor Gomez

I have a 32GB survivor that has just gone code blue on me. I cannot get it to mount on any machine and have tried three. I have tried the firmware update as well as the flash thing mentioned here but neither of them see the drive. I don't have aproblem sending the drive away but badly need the infomation off the drive. Is there anyway to retrieve the data? If it is sent back can you copy the data off the drive and put it on a new one?

The numbers etched onto the end of the drive are 111600562 on the top on the back 0003344 and 230028613 if this helps at all. Could the data be retrieved by a third party?

Within a few days of receiving my third Survivor GTR 64gb, it dove into the infamous Blinking Blue LED state. I would love to return this unit for a complete refund. According to my experience and all of the other postings related to this blinking LED state, there is obviously something very wrong with this units design...

Someone PLEASE Help...

Hi,

I'm having the same problem (3rd time now in 1-2 years) with a GTR 32Gb.

Previously the shop I bought the stick from changed it for me, but now, as I moved to Switzerland I am quite unhappy to see that the Post costs half the stick price :)

As a result..I was thinking about trying to fix it myself (I am in no way a memory guru but I am a day-to-day sysadmin/netadmin so I tend to manage stuff if I can read about them).

The stick is being seen in Windows as in all cases reported here and the blue light flashes party-style.

The sticky thread with the firmware upgrade is not functional for me (as the data is corrupt and it thinks the stick is not Corsair :) ).

The Urescue I have downloaded and tried so far are:

1.2.9.2, 1.2.12.1, 1.3.0.71.

All of them see the stick and display:

Device Information: XXXXXXXU168CONTROLLER ,(F)

32GB

FW Ver: A1CA: FMLG - 2.03S

SN: many 0s and the ending 52

They all report "rescue failed" after I click the Update button.

Do I have any other chance to rescue this stick without sending it back to Corsair NL ?

I've quickly read about: DtMPTool but I am a bit confused as to what is the difference between it and the Urescue software.

Also, I will only have time tonight to try the DtMPTool...

Any hints for a techie ?

P.S. Now, I saw that this thread is quite old...but maybe I still have a chance for an answer ?

P.S. Also, what would be the correct values to put for these (in case I am successful in changing them):

Vendor Name:

Product Name:

Product Rev:

Manufacture:

Product:

Vendor ID:

Product ID:

for my Corsair Flash Voyager GTS 32GB ?
