hanl1
Hey Guys, Sorry if this is yet another post that many people have asked. I tried to look for a similar one but did not find any. So I have been using 3* TR3X6G1600C8D on motherboard EVGA 132-BL-E758-A1 X58 and it worked all fine. A couple of days ago I decided to update my computer to 12gb memory so I purchased another 3* TR3X6G1600C8D, exact same model. However after that my computer crashes a couple of minutes after reboot, no matter whether I am already logged into windows or in the BIOS trying to set things right. The screen just turns black and computer hangs and does not respond to anything. Then I got one piece out and started using 10gb mem and things came back to normal. I guess I must have not tuned up the system correctly. If anybody could give me any insight on how I should set up the configs that would be greatly appreciated. Here's what I have tried with 12gb Set DIMM voltage to 1.65 at both 1333MHz and 1600MHz speed Set 8-8-8-24 timings specifically. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
trackrat
TWO kits are not guaranteed to work even if identical memory modules. Have you checked the version number on the memory modules to see if they are the same? Even if the memory is identical, you will not be able to run 12 GB. at the same timings as the 6 GB. modules as the timings are specific to the KIT. You can try lower frequencies, slower timings, longer latencies with 2T as a starter. Your system may take a lot of tweaks to run two KITS or they may never run stable. That is why Corsair always recommends buying one tested/matched kit for your PC so that it functions properly. See my signature below. hanl1
Thanks for the help guys. I tried changing the timings to 9-9-9-24 and applied +100mv Vtt and it finally worked at 1333MHz. This happened last night. However when I woke up this morning and turned on the machine, WIndows suddenly detects only 8gb memory! (12gb (7.99gb usable)) and the other 4gb is shown as system reserved. WHY? Last night this did not happen, all 12gb were up and running, and the machine was really fast. But this morning the machine was really slow and that's why I checked. I did not change any settings at all since last night. What could be wrong? Could it be that one of the sticks failed due to un-stability? But why did this happen overnight? I did not see anything weird last night. BY the way could anybody point me to the famous thread somewhere that explains multiple reasons why less memory can be used by the system?
trackrat
When you turned on your PC cold, the BIOS votages/latencies may not be sufficient to fully power the cold components power during boot at 1333 MHz? Try 11-11-11-30 2T. Your BIOS can default to slower timings or other possibilities when it experiences a cold boot issue with the existing BIOS settings. You may need to use slower timings, higher latencies, more voltage -- or the two KITs may never work together as they were not tested together.
