philgons
I just bought the ASUS Sabertooth X58 board and would really like to add 24GB of CMX12GX3M3A2000C9. It's not on the supported list for the board. Does that mean it won't work, or just that they don't guarantee that it will work? Is it worth a try, or is it likely that I'll have problems? trackrat
The 12 GB. CMX12GX3M3A2000C9 kit is approved for i7 mobos but the use of two memory module KITS is never guaranteed to work. If you're choosing this memory for the 2000 MHz. speed you can forget that with 24 GB. as it's not likely to happen. The best choice is to purchase a tested and approved 24 GB. kit from Corsair's i7 approved memory list. http://www.corsair.com/products/corei7/default.aspx http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145326
philgons
ASUS does list one supported set that allows 24GB (by use two sets of KHX1600C9D3K3/12GX), but it's a bit more expensive. I wasn't planning to run CMX12GX3M3A2000C9 at 2000. I'd be happy with it at 1600.
trackrat
The Intel i7-950 CPU official supports a max RAM frequency of 1066 MHz. I doubt you will be able to run 24 GB. at 1600 MHz. All you can do is try. The memory may be fine at 1600 MHz. but there are no guarantees when it comes to OC'ing. You're asking a lot of a memory controller to run 24 GB. of RAM stable when overclocked.
