Heintz.G
It's not worth updating BIOS unless it's dated after 10th August 2010, and as far as i know the MoBo updae is only to fix the smart error, which as far as i have seen only affects INTEL chipsets. Correct me if i'm wrong.
Yellowbeard
So you recommend using beta Bios for the MB? I'm asking because for my Asus M2A-VM, the latest release version (2302) is from Feb. 2009, and there is a Beta (5001) from April 2010, which only lists compatibility with current processors as improvements. I'm reluctant to install it because I had problems with the last Bios Upgrade and a version from April surely can't contain improvements resulting from your recent communication with MB manufacturers. Or can it? I don't think the beta BIOS in this case will do any good. RAM GUY was referring to very recent betas for newer boards.
rainkinz
For the person who's using a Corsair Force SSD in a Macbook Pro. Can you tell us what version it is? I have a MBP 4,1 Thanks
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 7, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 7, 2010 Shivan, I have not seen any problems with any of the ASUS AMD based MB's I have tested if that is the MB you are using but I would suggest using the latest BIOS they have listed on their public site. The MB you have has long been out of production and the latest Beta may be the best you can get. If you have the M2A-VM it should be BIOS 5001 I tried to put a link here but they have some Jave script preventing from posting a link. The HDMI shows the same BIOS version number but I think the file is actually different. Now that being said updating the BIOS is always a risk so if you want to wait a while longer we will have a Firmware update for the drive that may solve the issue. But I would try Firmware 1.1a if you have not done so and please after you update the firmware do a secure erase with Parted Magic and try a fresh install. Shivan
YB and Ramguy, Thanks for your replies. I'm already using 1.1a; Bluebeard sent it to me a while ago. I also secure-erased the drive after updating. I don't get the bluescreens as often as other people do, maybe 1 per week if the computer runs continuously. So I guess I'll wait for the new firmware and see if that solves the problem.
Toughbook
If I ever had a BSOD I think I would freak! I have not hd one of those since the early stages of XP.
kamyk155
Hello - at firts sorry for my bad english. What BSOD you guys got ? I got BSOD - 0x0000007F - hardware problem - NTOSKRNL.EXE I think my F60 do this. I try to max stress my CPU, I tested many times my RAM - still see BSOD few times a week but not in the stress. Why I think its my Corsair - because i see this BSOD when I do nothing - reading www sites or leaving my computer for more/less than hour (downloading files to normal HDD). I never see BSOD when i play games or doing something more stressing my computer. I just installed the new firmware 1,1a and I see the temperature problem/bug. Now I'm testing it. OKstate11
I'm still getting the BSOD after resuming from sleep mode with the 1.1a update. I will continue to suspend to disk but hope Corsair comes up with a fix for this soon. I never had that problem with the Intel or "OhSeeZee" drives I had before. blentre
It was setup to autoreboot so I didn't catch it. That's turned off now and just waiting for it to happen. Tried like hell to recreate yesterday and could not without changing a thing. Went ahead and updated from 1.0 to 1.1a yesterday. Update went easy but required a second reboot for drivers the document didn't mention, just fyi. After the update experienced the SMART but on temp, went from being in the 80's to 130-150. Ran ATTO before and after, stayed about the same, 240k MB write, 280k MB write. Just for reference, new 7200 drive was 110k write and 110k read. Still looking forward to the new firmware so I can start sleeping instead of powering on/off. I'll continue to monitor for the BSOD and report the error code, if it happens. Synbios
Those speeds for a 7200 RPM sound more like the burst speeds with large caches. I thought the sustained speeds of a 7200 RPM drive were lower than that, I could be wrong though. Glad to see that your Force drive is still running at peak performance though. It's too bad that 1.1 introduces a thermal reading problem as despite how inaccurate SMART is, it is somewhat useful for monitoring the temperature usually. It's a good thing you disabled auto-reboot so you can see the BSOD when and if it occurs.
bonta768
I had one bluescreen in a months time with 1.0, and no bluescreens so far over a week with 1.1A. On my Force 60 GB. Mummy
Same here! But i have two F80 in raid 0. It cant find them, because you have them in RAID. so make a backup copy of your files. install OS in IDE-mode. flash your drivers. secure eraser them and install your OS back from backup. I managed to get my files back with useing fix tool from w7 disk(fixed start files). but you maybe not so lucky so use backUP!
gio0166
Hi all What about people that cannot run windows? I have a late macbook pro 2010 with a F240 and I really would like to update my firmware. I cannot also boot from this kind of dvds with windows 7. By the way there is a file inside the zip file called "Corsair 1.1a.pkg" what it is? mac package? I cannot really run it. Any help is much appreciated thanks George
Wired
It's part of the firmware update. Currently the update tool from SandForce only works on windows. Only way to update the firmware would be to send the drive in to Corsair as it states on the update page.
gio0166
Thank's but that's not an option for me right now since this is my working system. That's a pity really you exclude systems like mac.....

Wired
Guys, it's SandForce, Not Corsair, who creates the update tool since it's their controller. I'm sure by now that various companies have told SandForce that end users want updaters for other platforms.

Wired
Shivan: No, it came across fine. Next time mention OS/2 :) gio0166: We're all aware of that, but they can't make the software appear out of thin air. As I stated, I'm pretty sure SandForce's corporate customers are informing them of what they and their customers want / need.
blentre
I've tried S3 sleep and powering down hard drives after 15 minutes, no problems with EVGA X58 SLI on Windows 7 64. All enabled and on day three.
