HanoverCourt
I am currently upgrading my system. I am planning on purchasing the 770 Classified in a few weeks. Because the hot swap bays of the 800D are SATA II, I am going to remove the top plate to run my SATA III WD HD in the hot swap bay. Is this idea going to fly? The H70 has allowed me to oc my 980x to 4500MHz.(Based on 20 runs of LinX at 25,000 problems.) I am a novice overclocker. Also, I purchased the 800D at a local Microcenter for $239.99! FlawlessSoul
Is there a reason you want the hard drive in a hotswap bay? You could use the bays below it for the WD.
HanoverCourt
Yes, two very good reasons. The drives in the hot swap bay are more accessible. I have a completely different Windows7 system and files on another drive which I swap out sometimes. Also the drives in the hot swap bay is cooled by a Noiseblocker 1700 rpm fan. The lower bay is not cooled by any fans.
FlawlessSoul
Since the panel is just non-locking SATA data and power connectors, you can just remove the backplane and cable them in, leaving enough cable spare to allow disconnection and reconnection outside the case. I've honestly had no trouble hot-swapping SATA2 devices via cable alone, I am unsure if there are further concerns that apply to SATA3 hotswapping. I just took my backplanes off and plugged sata3 and power cables into the drives throught the hole. Nice temp fix until Corsair comes out with the sata3 backplanes
HanoverCourt
I ordered and received my Classified 3. I installed it in my 800D case after removing the top backplate of the hot swap bay. My WD 600G drive is now running at 6G.
