dpsnakeyes
I have experienced system hangup during heavy disk usage I/O operations (accessing multiple drives, erasing, multiple applications running). This has happened only twice, but is a fresh install of Win7 running for only a few days. I am using the msahci and on other forums that I've read, its been suggested that switching to the Intel AHCI Matrix Controller reduces the likelihood of this problem reoccurring. I don't expect this to be common as I don't usually have tons of I/O operations going, but the possibility, and the fact it has happened, is a concern for overall system stability. Has anyone else had this problem or a solution:confused: I was also wondering if I can even use the Intel AHCI since my MOBO is an AMD chipset? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 27, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 27, 2010 Yes you can use AHCI but this setting will have to be enabled prior to the install of the O.S. However there is a sticky on how to enable AHCI in the top of this section. I would check with MSI for the latest BIOS and drivers and if you can test the drive on another system and see if that follows the drive.
dpsnakeyes
I already had AHCI enabled in the BIOS when I installed on the SSD. What I was wondering if I can use the Intel Controller instead of Microsofts even though I am using an AMD Motherboard... I gather from what your saying is that I can install the Intel controller and then see if the controller is still there on a different system? Yellowbeard
I suggest using the MS AHCI interface driver. If your problem persists, try using the AMD AHCI driver for the drive controller. The Intel driver will not work with an AMD drive controller.
dpsnakeyes
Thanks Yellowbeard. I thought that this was the case, but I wanted to be sure. I did follow the tips suggested in the Windows 7 Tips & Tweaks thread and so far this hasn't happened again. I think maybe the Superfetch Service might be at fault, but i haven't tried replicating this problem yet. If I find out anything more about this I'll post it here. It's only happened twice and could be just a fluke.
