Voyager GTR Bootable Problem

I have a Voyager GTR 32GB. I have tried to boot from it to install Windows 7. Other USB Flash drives work fine, but the Voyager GTR is not recognized at all. Tech support recommends RMA. This will be the second RMA. I am wondering is this design problem with the Voyager GTR?

Has anyone had the same problem?

Has anyone been able to boot from a Voyager GTR?

I have tried the Voyager GTR on several different system with the same result, i.e. the Voyager is not recognized. I have then use slower USB Flash sticks with the same configuration and they work fine. Any feedback would be appreciated.

No. What I have done is to create a custom install of Windows 7 using Rt7Lite. I then created a boot USB stick to install Windows 7 on my netbook. After the Voyager GTR had failed to boot, I used the same setup with another USB stick (not a Voyager) and was able to install Windows 7 from that USB stick. I then tried the Voyager on two different computer to see if it would work on those computers. It failed on both computers, the system just hanks. I then RMA the Voyager GTR. Upon receiving the new Voyager GTR, I did the same thing, i.e. tried to install Windows 7. The new Voyager GTR also failed. I again tried the Voyager on 2 different computers, it failed on both of them. My cheap and very slow USB sticks do work. However I brought the Voyager GTR because it was supposed to be 4x faster than the average USB flash drive.

I am just curious if ANYBODY has been able to create a boot USB to install Win7 using the Voyager GTR.

Creating a Dos boot UBS Flash Drive will not allow you to install Windows 7.

Below are two utilities that do work on other USB Flash drives and allow you install Windows 7.

-> http://wintoflash.com/home/en/

-> http://www.rt7lite.com/downloads.html

I know these utilities work because I have used them with other USB Flash Drives. This is the second Voyager GTR that will not boot. I have tried the Voyager GTR on different computers with the exact same configuration as I used for the other USB Flash drives. The Voyager GTR fails while the other USB Flash drives work.

If there is a design or firmware problem with the Voyager GTR, I would think that Corsair would want know about it and fix it. To just keep RMA (ing) a product that will not work will not solve the problem.

I used Windows 7 diskpart.exe and it worked. However, the unattended.xml was bye passed during the install. I used diskpart.exe again and then used Rt7lite to prepared the Voyager GTR as the boot drive and the unattended installation worked. What I found is that diskpart and the "clean" command are necessary to make the Voyager GTR work. I have created many unattended installations, but I have never had the kind of problem I have had with The Voyager GTR. So THANK YOU for the solution. Bye the way the install of Windows 7 using the Voyager GTR is about twice as fast as compared to the regular USB flash drives I usually use.

Diskpart will not work with a removable flash drive that way normally, and icanic please try a search in Google for how to make a Windows 7 Install on a flash drive. We used to have it on the forum but it was a few yeasr back now and I dont see it.

But you might look here if the search does not help.
