Triggaaar
There are so many recommendations for the Scythe GTs, that's what I'd like to put on my H70, but the 1850s are out of stock. So do I wait a month until they're back in stock, or are the 1450rpm models suitable? I'd generally hope that they're spinning under 1450rpm anyway, as they're a fair bit quieter, and still do a decent job. But perhaps it's best to have the ability to go to 1850 should things hot up. Any idea on the temperature difference between 1450s and 1850s when running at load? Thanks
Defender2803
The temp difference may be a degree or two at idle and no telling at load. Your stock fans may give you some idea. Should have a cable to slow them down. I would wait for the 1850's. You can slow them down with an inline resistor or fan controller. The lower RPM version you can't speed up if you need to. I definitely recommend some type of speed controller for any non-PWM fan as you may want to quiet them down from time to time along with having the ability to speed them up when needed. Defender2803
Indeed :) Oh, can't you just control them from the motherboard? Only if the MBD came with software or some type of setting in the BIOS. I like to manually control my fans however so only 2 of the 4 fans that hook to the MBD are still attached and I have 3 extra fans added. I may end up controlling all the fans manually before I am done. My MBD is set to static RPM on the fans that are left with the software that came with it. Triggaaar
Thanks for the help. The motherboard is the Asus P6X58D-E. It has 5 fan sockets. A 3-pin pwr which is not controllable, and 2 4-pin & 2 3-pin that are controllable by Asus's Fan Xpert software. The adjustments appear to be fairly configurable (I'm looking at the manual, system not built yet), but I don't know whether that's just as successful with the 4-pin sockets as the 3-pin. Sounds good to me. Should make life easier.
