Thebiznes
I have 4 F40 in raid 0 config and for some reason every now and then the drives fail to boot. The arreca recognises the array passes that stage then when going to windows I get. 0xc00000e the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. Now this looks as though it has lost the areca driver so when I try to repair even loading the driver the system fails to find the corsairs although the driver is loaded it simply points to my intel array on the ich10 contoller. On reboot going to the repaired link on the menu I boot back into my intels. Thsi happens randomly say once every 15 boots. It means I cant rely on the Corsairs as a boot volume at the minute. I notice others having a similar problem that the bios fails to pick up the drive. Sounds very similar. Is there a new firmware that rectifies this problem? I hope there is or these will come out of my system for good. Sorry probably posted in wrong part of forum. Dissapointed that I have spent £400 if this is going to be a problem for some time. The intels in raid dont or haven't caused me any problems in this area no matter what controller I run them off. Yellowbeard
Have you tried using the Force drives on the Intel ICH10-R to see if the Areca controller may be the issue?

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 21, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 21, 2010 Have you tested the drives one at a time or as single drives to be sure its not just one specific drive that may be dropping out? Also have you tried new cables as well? You might try and create the array with 3 drives and see if its more stable.
Thebiznes
I haven't tried that as yet as in single drives. the cables are new they are sas to 4 sata. What I have done is secure erased with hdderase and have turned off sleep mode hoping that might be what has caused the drives to drop. Only an idea but it's so random happening ever now and then. If this fails I will try your suggestion.
Merlinen
I have aboutthe same problem with my 6x F120 drives. The Controller cards lose contact with the drives. I have tryed difrent the disks in singel mode/raid0/raid1/raid5/Raid6 and difrent cabels and controler cards (Areca 1680, 3Ware 6950, Intel ICH10R). I get exactly the same problems in all 6 drives. It happens about ones every 24-48h per drive. SuperMicro X8STE Intel Xeon E5620 3x KVR1333D3E9S/4G Areca 1680x 3Ware 9650 And ICH10R on the MB. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 23, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 23, 2010 If you are using Windows 7 make sure that you disable suspend to Ram and Hybrid suspend and set it to suspend to disk instead and that you have the latest firmware and driver for the raid card. Merlinen
Using ESX 4.1 with vSphere server 4.1 and running Windows Server 2008 R2 as virtual machines. And all cards/drivers/firmwares are up to date/latest versions.
Thebiznes
I tried without suspend drives had been alright for 2 weeks now just turned on same problem corrupt install. Had to boot of my Intels and repair the drive array. Now in windows some icons are not presenting correctly. I asked for a RMA in Sept still havent recieved it. I wish I hadn't bought these they have proved so unreliable they keep having this same problem. Please answer the RMA request someone. I will take these out and once RMa'ed get rid. Unless someone has a fix i.e firmware? That prevents the drives from becoming unrecognised for no apparent reason randomly all the time.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 13, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 13, 2010 Have you tried updating the firmware?
Thebiznes
Not as yet I was unaware of a firmware being released. Please link me to it and provide an idea about what it fixes. It would be great if it fixed this problem.

It would be great if it fixed this problem. You'd need to get that from Areca. All F40 drives to date are firmware 1.11. There is no newer firmware available for the drives yet. We expect it very soon and it will be announced here on the forums when we have it.

Thebiznes
Now the drives become inaccesible after prolonged use i.e 8 hours straight then reboot and same problem. Boot inaccessable I have to use windows 7 disc and areca disk to load drivers then chkdisk all the corrupted files and then repair the boot drive. Then I can get back in and all is fine again, but it takes 15 mins. Do Corsair understand the problems I and others seem to be having with these drives? The other drives I have don't suffer in the same system. Are you releasing a firmware update that will address this issue of drives almost going to sleep or frozen state? Thebiznes
Hope you fix this isssue. I am with holding RMA in the hope that Corsair does fix it . I get lots of corruption and same problem of non boot I think I will take these out and use the intels as boot until new firmware fixes this problem. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 22, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 22, 2010 Thebiznes, We ave not seen this type of problem on any other controller so I do not think the next firmware release for our drives will solve that issue for you, I would contact the controller manufacturer and see if they have any suggestions.Or try another RAID controller.
