HectorHughMunro
I'm currently trying to fit a Corsair TX650 to a Dell XPS Studio 8000 with core I7. Seems pretty simple but I'm grounding on one problem. There's a four pin socket in the middle of the motherboard for which there doesn't seem to be a corresponding plug coming from the power supply. Is there a way of overcoming this or have I just bought the wrong power supply? Thanks is advance.
Synthohol
can you take a pic and post it?
HectorHughMunro
By the look of things I think it's an EPS12v bu tI'm not sure. It looks like this; http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atx12v4 OK, so presumably, I could use one of these; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150470776506&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en or can the 8 pin plugs on the PSU be split and used? Wired
Before you hook it up MAKE SURE their motherboard is ATX 2.01+ compliant!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 20, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 20, 2010 There is an 8-pin connector on the power supply that splits in half to give you backwards compatibility with the 4-pin motherboard connectors. If Dell is using a proprietary PSU then its possible that a standard off the shelf PSU would not be compatible. As Wired mentioned our PSUs are built to ATX specifications and are backwards compatible to the ATX12v 2.01 spec.
HectorHughMunro
No, they don't use proprietary PSU anymore. Other people have fitted the TX650 so I know this one is OK. It's just a case of how to install it. I'm going to give it a go tomorrow. Ram Guy, I didn't realize that the 8 pin actually split. I've had a look and you're right. I think this is the answer, thank you.
HectorHughMunro
It fitted and it worked. Thx. Apart from having the extra internal cables, interestingly, I'm getting better reception on my Wifi aerial. Suspect the Dell power supply was noisier in some way than the Corsair.
