HanoverCourt
A few days ago I came across an online post discussing the H70 and 125mmx55mm fans(replacing the stock fans) setup in an 800D case. A fan controller was used to control the rpm of the fans. I have been thinking of trying this setup with my 980x and motherboard. I would have to attach the H70(a new one) and fans to the top rear of an 800D. I would like feedback from forum members.
E46Johnny
I assume you are thinking of the TFC/FESER triebwerk fans. This will be a fairly long combo, so some measurements should be taken just to check if its possible. The length is about 160mm. You should also consider using shrouds, at least on the push fan, the pull fan will have a little built in shroud because of the special nose cone on the fan. A shroud is normaly 15-20-30-40mm. A spot fan on the north bridge area could also be necessary due to possibility of restricted air flow in that aria because of cooler size. You could also consider putting the H70 in the top front if the tubing is long enough, and add a god high flowing fan in in the bottom position blowing cool air in to the H70
kkolbo
You may have to beware that the tubing on the H70 is stiff and limited in length. I went with 25mm shrouds on 25mm NB fans for this reason. Rotating the radiator did not help the issue. 50mm of stuff on the ext of the radiator was all that would fit. You will notice that one of my fans is outside the case.
HanoverCourt
I found out a few weeks ago that the top rear was a good placement for my first purchased H70 in the 800D. I do not think the H70's tubing will reach the top front or top middle fan positions of the 800D.(I have an E760 mobo) The top middle and front fan positions will get NB 1800 rpm fans that will exhaust air from the 800D. Also the three 140mmx25mm stock fans in the 800D will be replaced with NB 1700 RPM fans. I not a big fan of shrouds based on my reading of articles and forum posts. However, I will take another look at shrouds online. And yes, I was talking about the F/NT TK-122 NB-----it is 120mmx 55mm in size. It is the MidSpeed Fan---1800RPM. And yes, I think some careful planning and measuring is a good idea before actually ordering the H70 and fans. None of the fans in my builds will go outside the 800D case for asthetic reasons. kkolbo
The shrouds made a nice difference in cooling when using the lower rpm and quieter fans. For the price, they are a nice consideration. The H70 as stock cools exceptionally well. Messing with it was only because I wanted to be quieter for recording purposes. Other than that, The stock config works very well. HanoverCourt
Very interesting blog kkolbo-----I now have a better understanding of your using the Triebwerk fans for super important "noise reasons. " Did you use the M3 or M4 screws to mount the Triebwerk fans to the H70?
kkolbo
I am not sure if you mean http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89387 or my blog http://amediaprof.com, but either way, thanks. I did not use Triebwerk fans. I used Noise Blocker M12-P's. I found less cooling performance with the H50 on top because it was pulling exhaust from all of the vents on top of the 800D case. I think every case will have it's best location and every user will find the sweet spot for their needs. I know I did in the end. I am cool and quite and it renders video faster than any dual Xeon it has challenged :headbang2
HanoverCourt
I looked at amediaprof.com. I found the 2.5" long screws(6-32 thread) that I going to need to attach the 120mmx55mm TK-122 fans to the H70 at FrozenCPU, a popular online store. It seems this is TK-H70 push/pull setup is no big deal. Frozen even suggests ordering the TKs with the 2.5" long screws and H70. However, because of their return policies, I must take a look at the 800D manual for its measurements. I have already tested the H70 in an 800D case. But I returned the H70 because I disliked the mounting ring.
kkolbo
Used the longer of the screws to that came with the shrouds. I had to tap the holes in the H70 to match the size and thread.
HanoverCourt
The project to use 120mmx55mm fans with the H70 is a "no go" for many reasons. I have listed two of reasons below. 1. I just can not get past the fact that the mounting ring and plastic boots setup was not changed for the H70. Corsair did a good job of designing the new pump and fatter rad, but the mounting setup is basically the same as the second issue H50. 2. My focus is really becoming a more knowledgeable overclocker and pushing the 980x and new Classy3 mobo to its limits with my current air cooler and SATA3 ssd or SATA3 hd. The new Classified3 will be released early next month according to one of Evga's Product Managers.
