HallowedWeasel
So I'm having an issue with a new computer I'm building, and I think it's a PSU issue but I'd like confirmation before pursuing an RMA. The PSU runs fine without any of the 4-pin Molex connectors loaded. The paper clip test loaded with a DVD drive via SATA power passes. The paper clip test loaded with a fan via 4-pin Molex fails. Using a digital multimeter to inspect each connection in the 24-pin Molex, every pin except 6 appears normal; testing pin 6 causes the PSU to power down. Is this an issue with the 5v rail, worthy of an RMA?
Synthohol
what are your testing methods? when you are checking voltage at the connector where do you have your ground lead as a reference? there is no more -5v wire so maybe try the PSU cae itself as the 5v ground reference? HallowedWeasel
I was using pin 24, COM, as my reference. The PSU won't fire up this morning, even with the DVD as the load.
Synthohol
if the paperclip method wont even get the PSu's fan to budge i would go ahead and http://www.corsair.com/helpdesk/ and RMA
HallowedWeasel
The fan spins up for about half a second, then coasts back to a stop.
Synthohol
have you hooked it up to the MB yet and see what happens?
HallowedWeasel
Same thing, split second of power, then nothing. Also, before I forget to say so, thank you for the help Synthohol! Live long and prosper. Edit: Proceeding with the RMA.
