CPU temp too hot with Corsair A70?

Hi

Recently, I just replaced my stock fan with Corsair A70. I am disappointed with the results that I have been getting.

Ambient temp - 28-30C

Stock CPU settings, I am getting about 48C idle and 70C load (after running prime95 for about 5min)

I tried to OC to 3.5GHz

I get around 55C idle and it reached 99C load and I stopped there.

I have reseated the heatsink a couple of times, have tried using the thermal paste that came with the heatsink and also arctic silver 5 but got almost the same reults. I've also tried intalling the heatsink vertically and horizontally.

Any advice?

Could be lack of air mate.. Looking at that your ram I see it could be blocking air flow but since you say you have tried installing it vertically with no difference would lead me to think that it could be poor airflow through the case? Or possible it's not mounted tightly enough. Is there anyone on here that has this cooler and can post stats?

I have moved most of the cables behind the motherboard (as you see in the pics) and also, front, back and top fans are working so I would think the air flow is working fine.

I have removed the fans for the memory since pictures were taken and the results is about the same.

Andyvee,

I will try your suggestion of changing the the back fan to intake and change the heatsink to blow out air to the top.

Thought it could be the seating issues too but I have already tried reseating the heatsink couple of times with the same results.

If Andyvee's advice does not improve my temps, I will go back to stock fan and compare the temps.

no change the heatsink so it is blowing air rear to front , ie the same direction as the rear fan will now be :!:

Could you have too much thermal paste? The paste can prevent proper cooling. It is to fill irregularities, not separate the too surfaces. Should be very thin.

yes, i have tried different amount of paste and have tried using AS5 as well as the thermal paste that came with the A70.

Right now, I am actually using the stock heatsink as I am still getting 50C at idle but it can go up to 85C at 100% load.

I have bought some 120mm fans to replace the fans that came with the case to see if it will improve air flow. I will have to try it tomorrow as I have to get ready for work.

After adding side fans and upgrading the stock fans with antec,

I am getting ~47C @ idle and about 82C @ full load (prime95) running at 3.48Ghz.

Should I be content with these results or is the temp still too high?

After installing TT iCage (without installing any HD) into the 5.25" bay and my ambient temp cooled down to about 25C, I am getting 37-43C at idle and 70-74C at 3.48 OC.

Any update on this? Would like to know what your temps are after the AS5 has had time to cure now.

Didn't see any noticeable difference in temp after running for 200+ hours with AS5.

A noticeable changes in my cpu temp is caused by the ambient temp of the room. As room gets hot, cpu gets hotter. I guess I will OC more during the winter and less during summer.

Hee! I think winter is a great month for OCing. Just but your system outside and run the cables in through a window.

I have just received this cooler, but am yet to put together my system as i am waiting for a few parts to be in stock with my supplier. I will be using the i7-950 CPU so wont be a direct comparison but will try and post once i get my rig put together.

But agreeing with an earlier post the air flow through your case does not look great.

Hi

I just got the same cooler. It appears that my temperature is even higher than yours.

But,

Your pictures show that your idle cpu case (surface?) temperature is 37C; on load 59C.

Those 48 idle and 70C load appear to be core temperatures.

I still wonder what temperature should I expect

I would make sure your pump is at full speed , As you can see its running around 1500 rpm , make sure your cpu fan duty cycle is at 100% in the bios

the 930 is @3.660 and is kicking around 33.c @ full load on prime 95 its 59.c

Iam using 2 excalibur fans

i hope this helps
