F120 SSD Random Kernel-Power 41 BSOD; Not Detected on Boot

Recommended Posts

as for my motherboard, the latest bios i can find is the beta bios F7W dated august 2nd 2010

so i don't think this is the bios mentioned. i'll keep my eyes opened.

@yellowbeard

i'm still expecting your email btw ;)

Just sent it. Sorry,I worked until about 5am and am just now inhaling my "morning" coffee. Your board is one of the boards that needs the updated BIOS for sure. See if there is a newer version posted yet. At last check, it's a beta BIOS and you may need to get it from their tech suppport.

I own the Corsair F60 and I also have this problem but only when idle for some time.

*edit* This happens everey night. Usually leave it on when I go home from work.

Firmware 1.0

Trim Enabled

IDE not AHCI(BIOS does only allow IDE or RAID)

Windows 7 Professional x64

Hibernate, sleep disabled

This is a Hewlet Packard pc with Intel Q35 chipset

Have updated both BIOS and chipset firmware. Did not help.

Please help !!!

Hi,

I have the same problem.

Resets mainly when the PC has been idle (no actual user on the PC). Utorrent is usually running in the background. Will only happen maybe once or twice a week.

It reset once when a user was actively on the PC.

They've noticed the mouse cursor freezing then all of Windows would freeze. PC will then restart and a non system boot device would be reported. Restarts still report a non valid OS drive. SSD is not detected in bios. The issue will only be resolved by powering the system down then up.

CrystalDisk says I have firmware 1.0

Please help :)

Thanks

I have this exact same problem but with a different brand of ssd, the common theme between the 2 is the sandforce controller, Trim and win7 x64

I have been screaming like chubbacca for about a month now with all those BSODs and random reboots when idle. I took a while to search the internet for some other troubles and tried a thing or two. With total luck i discovered that when i disable those little settings set by default by win7x64 it did my pc bsod...

Control Panel\System and Security\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings

go to change advanced power settings and here are the setting that makes me smiles now:

-hard disk, turn off hard disk after: NEVER

-sleep, all the 3 first to: NEVER

thats it, wish it helps the devs and/or people out there.

i didnt take the time to look and read if the problem had been fixed yet... so sorry if i just repeat someone else.

Win7 x64

Asus m4a88td-v evo/usb3

Possible solution-Check your pagefile settings guys. I turned off my c: [120gig ssd drive ] pagefile and moved it to my f3 spinpoint d: drive and the system would crash when idle. Re-enabling the c: pagefile as a 1 gig min/max size seems to have cured it.

I have been reading this post because I had this problem too. I bought the SSD F60 a couple of weeks ago and first I tried to clone my systemdisc to the SSD, and it worked fine for a couple of days. Then I had these reboots and only when the computer had been idle for a couple of ours. The funny thing is that I had an older Corsair SSD before and it did exactly the same thing. And after I had it replaced it continued so Komplett, a retailer in Sweden had it for testing and could not reproduce the fault I was told there was no problem with the disk. So I gave it away to my son, and he has not had any trouble with it. Now I read all your guys problem with this disc and find more people with the same problem, Peew, thank god for that. I have worked with computer for over 30 years, as a tech, and I have found the same temporary solution to not having to find the stupid message, no bootdisk found, to be to disable the trim command. My mobo is ABIT AW9D and CPU Q6600 and with the Corsair SSD it is lightning fast. I have two of these setups, so if one goes faulty i just starts the other. So Corsair, when will you find a solution to our problems?

Several posts ago, I mentioned disabling write caching and use Intel RST 9.6.4.1002, still BSOD when idle, so there's no need to try that. Except sleep/wake no longer causes a BSOD.

I am going to try nkdan's suggestion by setting the pagefile to 1GB min/max. Currently I've disabled the pagefile. With the pagefile on or off, it never gives a BSOD on my mechanical HDD, I wonder how this will help the SSD. But I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Nkdan, is your system still running without BSOD after setting the pagefile?

I have uptime of over 72hrs now. This is a record since installing my ssd. I'm letting the comp do exactly what it was doing before and no crashes so far. In fact I've even re-enabled my O/C on my cpu and increased it. At the moment everything is pointing to the pagefile...... or lack of it on the ssd as my problem.

edit-I should point out I run 6 gig of ram, if you're running less adjust your pagefile accordingly

Can anyone give some insight if setting Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2 so that it never turns off the primary hard disk helps the situation?

I agree that the hard drive seems to only crash when the computer is idle. I have a paging file set to it and it still crashes though. I need to know if ANYBODY has had any crashes since setting Windows to never turn off the primary disk, or else I am going to change my default OS installation to a different hard drive.

Try updating your BIOS to the most recent BIOS from Gigabyte. It may require a beta BIOS. Gigabyte has identified and corrected an issue with these BIOS updates that should solve your problem.

I hope you are exploring other options to fix this problem. Because alot of us dont have gigabyte motherboards...:sigh!:

Not all of the issues are related. But, that's the problem when you get a long thread with a lot of different hardware profiles mixed in. Please check your PMs.

I've been on the latest bios since the smart issue failure was identified and fixed by gigabyte and I continued to crash when the computer was idle. As I've posted earlier it's starting to look like my own issue is solved since moving the pagefile back to the c: drive. Does Trim when the computer is idle require a pagefile on the ssd? It appears so in my case.

Mines set to never turn off hdd. All my power options are set to max performance. Still got increasing uptime so things are looking good at the moment.

So is that also with TRIM disabled?

I would like a fix without having to disable TRIM, if i set mine to never turn off HDD will it work reliably even if TRIM is enabled?

I have a Tyan motherboard with the latest BIOS..check my system specs for more info.
