OK tried to update:

1. Made bootable USB drive

2. Downloaded lower64.exe copied to USB

3. Booted ... no problem

4. Got through all the screens - drive detected correctly, chose #1 (which it was)

5. Got mesage: [ERROR]Firmware download fail!

Tried hot plugging - checked IDE mode (even changed it from Enhanced to Compatible) - removed all other drives including CD so only X-64 was attached. No luck just the same [ERROR]Firmware download fail! message.

Thanks anyway for letting us try - at least it will give you some more statistics to ponder over with regards to system configurations that work and don't work ;-)

(error) download firmware faild bye

You are not the only one. with that [error]download firmware failed!

Will list what I have done.

1. Tried it via floppy drive connected via USB on IDE mode, drive recognised, but get that error.

2. Tried it on a USB Pen Drive - A 4GB Corsair Voyager one no less, error program not designed to run with this operating system??.

3. Tried it on the same above Voyager using the method to create a compatible USB bootable pen drive linked to above, Error Download failed.

4. Tried it on a Sandisk Cruzer Pen Drive - same error

5. My main PC motherboard is a socket 1366 Gigabyte X58. So disconnected my X64 and connected it to my old PC, this has SATA 1.5 connectors on and its an Intel ICH5 based board.

6. ICH5 via floppy [error]download firmware failed!

7. Wouldn't let me do it via USB as my board did not support USB pen drive booting.

This is very annoying, what is the reason for this particular error, why is it trying to download the firmware?, does it mean it trying to back up the v1 firmware currently on my drive?, if so I don't care about the v1 firmware being backed up can I just be risky and flash it to v2 without the backup.

Or if it is not this, does it mean the Lower64.exe file is duff?

I would try another system I had success with an ASUS M2N32-SLI MB in the lab.

Thx, but i feel like just holding back for a while now with no disrespect meant at all.........but i don't know anybody with that MB and really dont feel like buying a MB "just" to get the updater running.

Will be interesting to see if someone successful and what set-up they run.

Thx again.

This is a perfect example of what I referred to as an element of randomness in the failures. And, we have seen some examples where 2 apparently identical MOBOs will show different results. Trust me, we did a LOT of extensive testing to arrive even at this point. Which is why we were hesitant and delayed releasing this utility.

Not to cut anyone short but I want to be clear here so that end users can expedite their process and get the result they want as quickly and efficiently as possible. If you want TRIM, you have 2 options and in this order.

1. Try the flash method and tips given here. If you try the flash method and it does not work, and you still want TRIM;

2. The best idea is to RMA the drive. This is global, not just US customers.

Good luck and thank you for choosing Corsair. ::pirate::

Thanks Yellowbeard .... sometimes you have to let the child out to play so that it can see for itself what the big bad world has to offer lol

At least now we can see first hand what the problems are - how they manifest themselves is down to the coders to find out 'why' ... I know it's not you guys but your EMS partners, etc that need to get their hands dirty and sort out these random elements. One for the record books once they nail it .... and again, thanks for letting us try and for the other offers - it is much appreciated :-)

Failed, like everyone else it would seem, with "[Error]Could not download firmware". This is on AMD770 (Asus M4A77TD PRO) with IDE mode set.

Has anyone at all had any success at all? First impressions don't seem to fit with the official line that only a few random issues needed to be ironed out before release.

Which chipsets have tested successfully with this?

No one from Corsair ever said anything like this. This update tool is problematic at best which is why it was delayed.

Just tried my third and final PC.

It is an Asus AM2+ motherboard.

Same error. Tried numerous SATA ports and all the same error.

Either there is a critical step missing from these instructions, Corsair have got the Lower Case and Upper Case files mixed up.

Or Indillix are a complete bunch of muppets who cannot create a simple firmware update tool for their drives (I say this as I know Corsair don't have anything to do with this firmware update).

Needless to say I will be avoiding Indillix based drives from now on.

Just to add I tried numerous SATA ports as I believed this is what this member was meaning

Just compleated the update for lower case X 64GB. Updated with no problems after switching to IDE mode (in AHCI the flasher didn't detect the drive).

Base system was Acer TravelMate 8371 w. bios 1.18

No problems so far. Nice :)

Like I said on the other thread I have tried it with three separate PC's.

Floppy and USB Pen Drives (Corsair USB Pen Drives too - i.e the best you can get) and every one got the [Error]Firmware download fail!.

From the indiciation of posts today it seems most motherboards don't support this update feature, making it worthless.

What I would therefore like to know is what Indillix where thinking sending this out to Corsair and likely all the other Indillix SSD rebadging companys too.

This is pretty pathetic of Indillix if they think this anywhere close resolves the problem.

Can Corsair not do something about this?, as if was a manufacturere that got passed shoddy merchandise by your suppliers to sell with your name on I would be furious with the way Indillix have just brushed this off with this pathetic updater.

Or failing this could you guys at Corsair not have a go at making a proper updater as opposed to relying on Indillix to bring one that works?

Anth, the 2 options are flash or RMA.

I was starting to realize this, was just trying anything to hold off as I don't relish the postage costs to Holland when in the UK as they wont be cheap.

Or being without my boot drive for likely a fortnight when it gets shipped to Holland and back from the UK.

I know Corsair don't have to explain the issues you are having, but I would hope you and the other SSD vendors that are selling rebadged Indillix drives are giving them some agro for this shoddy work on their part.

As I wouldn't even call this update tool an Alpha release it is so bad and this is after Indillix have supposedly worked months on creating it (W7 came out September after all, its now March in three days time).

But once again it was good of Corair releasing it to allow people to try, so my annoyance is not with Corair.

I just got the second X128 and was about to setup my raid when I came to look here.

Will the 1916 firmware be forthcoming at some point?

/and you thought you were finally safe ::pirate::

No, it's worse than this one in every respect. :(:

It also adds nothing needed above TRIM.
