Reboots, turns-itself off, & even on?

Recommended Posts

Okay, first a couple of frozen screens;

Days later, a few random reboots;

About 1-week later, pc randomly powers-itself-off (and once even powered-itself back on);

Shortly thereafter, the powering-off-on-off-on-off cycle begins;

Now, the PC refuses to boot to the 'Windows Desktop', and will rarely load the BIOS even it when occasionally prompts 'F1' for setup;

RAM, CPU, HDD, GPU are okay (swapped with known good ones)-

I did the paper-clip 'thing', the fan spun-up and stayed on until I turned-off psu...

Does this sound like a power supply failure?

Sounds more like a motherboard or BIOS problem, but I wouldn't rule the PSU out completely. If possible I would test the PSU in a different system to see if you can reproduce the same issues. The PSU can not turn itself on or off, it needs to get a signal from the motherboard to do so.

You may also want to rule out an issue with 3rd party software/drivers by booting up into safe mode and see if there is any improvement.

If all else fails we can definitely try replacing the PSU for you, just use the "Request an RMA" link on the left side of this page.
