H50 lifespan

That's what I thought but wasn't sure. I've installed mine on a AM3 socket but used the plastic backing plate that comes with the h50. Would I have been able to use my stock backing plate. Or doesn't it make any difference which one u use?

I doubt backing plate has much to do with lifespan, I think you are fine with the H50s provided backplate. The metal back plates are generally to keep the board from flexing with the pressure system OEM heatsinks use. Since the bracket on the H50 applies pressure in a much more even manner you don't need to protect from flexing the board the same way.

you could have used your original back plate. corsair provides larger screws that thread into the oem metal plate.
