Corsair h50 fan and lowering RPMs

I am wondering if it's safe to slow down the fan included with the H5?

At its stock 1700+rpm speed whipping through the radiator its annoying.

I used speedfan and knocked it down to 1200rpm and its much better.

I haven't so far noticed an increase in temps but I don't want to kill my H50

Shouldn't be a problem, especially if you monitor your temps and they are ok. The fan that comes with the H50 is PWM regulated, and if in use, it'll run at far less than 1700 RPM. I think mine runs at 800 RPM when idling.

my overclocked amd940, listening to music, chatting on msn and browsing the net runs the h50 fan at around 870 - 900rpm when set to automatic. core temps get a little high (45C), but nothing the 940 cant handle. when i wana play a game ill ramp it up manually to max speed for safety.

I disabled smart fan in the bios per the installation directions. So my fans run full speed. I can use SpeedFan to regulate them but it doesn't do it automatically.

Can I turn on smart fan and set it to PWM mode and not worry about the pump not performing optimally?

slowing it down is safe but depends on your cpu and clock speed as i accidently had my board's temp app (SG on DFI DK P55) auto reducing my H50-1 rad fan fro 1663rpm to 663rpm and resulted in crazy high temps for cpu and rad surface temps see below tests
