Wilfredg1
Just received VS512SDS333 modules to upgrade my Vaio PCG-FRV37 from 512 MB to 1 GB but after installing my system information shows 512 MB instead of 1 GB. I tested each module individually and they showed 256 MB instead of 512 MB. My laptop came with two 256 MB modules that are PC2100 and my new ones are PC2700. Every article I've checked indicates PC2700 are backwards compatible with PC2100. Are the Corsair memory modules mislabled?
Wired
PC2700 vs PC2100 would only change the speed, not the memory size. Sounds like your laptop may not like the density of that part number. Even though the memory's backwards compatible, the memory controller may not like the higher speed and has some default setting that forces it to only see a limited size or something. Doubt it though. To be safe, try the memory in a different system. Otherwise, return it and get VS512SDS266 which is listed on the Corsair Configurator as being compatible. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 26, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 26, 2010 I am sorry but our memory configurator shows that system as only taking VS512SDS266 the DDR333 modules will use a higher density IC that some of the older chip sets may not be able top see properly.
