v0rd4zz
hi...i had a choice to pick up either x32 or pay a difference and get p64 drive from corsair...now i took x32 without checking much online, but upon logging here i see there are some problems...did i make the right decision, or should i go exchange the drive now all i care is pure performance...size is not important, i just dont want to get stuck with the drive that has less capability than advertised i have to make decision today because they will let me exchange in one day...can you guys help me out? which drive should be faster? thanks :)
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 15, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 15, 2010 The performance of X-32 is 210 MB/s sequential read and 100 MB/s sequential write. The performance of P-64 is 220 MB/s sequential read and 120 MB/s sequential write So they are close to the same as for as performance. But in this case the P-Series will have slightly better read and write performance. However, if you compare apples to Apples and the X-64 is 220 MB/s sequential read and 135 MB/s sequential write. Which is slightly faster than P-Series.
v0rd4zz
this is what im getting on vista 64 bit, phenom 2 940@3.5, 4gb of ram rather dissapointing...it falls well short of declared speeds...do you guys have anyting i can try to raise the performance??? http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/7953/x32k.jpg http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/6476/x32crystal.jpg
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 15, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 15, 2010 I would suggest using Parted magic to wipe the drive (Under Tools Select Erase Disk) and then Select the drive from the list and select Secure erase then format the drive using the Quick format with 32K Allocation option and test the drive with ATTO Disk Bench

Keep in mind also that your score is going to be slightly lower when running the OS on it. So, if you are benching the drive while it is running your OS, that is likely the discrepency. v0rd4zz
update...i have kept x32 drive and installed w7 64-bit on it, and so far it seems good...the writes seem to be 90-95mb and reads 200-210mb...this is only on ATTO...on crystal its 55mb write and 175mb read...same with some other ssd benchmark...does anyone know why is that...anyways im running os and wow client on it and all i can see is occasional small hiccups like 0.5-1sec...are those multithreaded write pauses?...do extreme series have them?...any insight would be appreciated btw...i found the best performance by allocating 2k upon quickformat
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 18, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 18, 2010 The performance of X-32 is 210 MB/s sequential read and 100 MB/s sequential write. So you are right in line with the spec. I would suggest you try it with default allocation if you are using Windows 7.
v0rd4zz
how do i do that once i have the system on? do i have to reformat then reinstall? tnx update: another thing i noticed on vista is the crooked atto benchmark like it is above when using ahci...when using native IDE then i got normal results.-. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 18, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 18, 2010 I would suggest using IDE mode unless you do the Install with that enabled. And you would have to image the drive like with Accronis Disk Image to another drive then reformat with the Quick option then test the drive with ATTO as a second drive then if its working properly delete the partition and re-image the drive. v0rd4zz
ok here is the problem in a nutshell: i have pictures of every single step...the drive is not working as it should, after the last 5GB on it get used...take a look at this...amazing difference: 1. secure erased disk, formatted default 4096 http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/5077/1111dv.jpg 2. added 16gb file, 14gb free http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/324/2222cv.jpg 3. added another 5gb file, 10gb free http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/8075/3333yu.jpg 4. added another 5gb file, cca 5gb free http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/4097/4444f.jpg drive still going strong seems like now, the total breakdown :( 5. added another 5gb file, cca 500mb free http://img686.imageshack.us/img686/213/5555nh.jpg  6. deleted that same one 5gb file, cca 5gb free http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/3855/6666yw.jpg  the usage of that last 5gb just seems to have done the drive in :( 7. deleted another 5gb, cca 10gb free http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/3609/7777j.jpg you get the picture :S 8. quickformatted with 4096 setting, 30gb free http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/930/8888ps.jpg a disaster unfortunately i have paid for 32gb usable SSD not 25gb so i will be returning this...i am interested can anyone with x32 verify that the drive after being charged all the way goes to this miserable performance? or is the drive simply faulty ? let me know
mattspalace
P series supports TRIM, X series does not. 32GB is BARELY enough space to use in the real world. You would be much better off with a 64GB drive. You'll fill up the 32GB drive, or at least nearly fill it, and yes the performance will suffer. v0rd4zz
the problem is after i delete the stuff...the drive still stays in the crappy mode like it is full...thats what i dont understand why
v0rd4zz
exchanged it ...sorry corsair, maybe some other time :(
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 21, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 21, 2010 NP but that will happen with any drive as they fill up. But good luck.
AlienwareALX
Hmm. This looks really similar to the problem I am having with mine. Thing is I only have about 13gb on mine.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 21, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 21, 2010 In his case he was filling the drive then deleting the files and expecting TRIM to be immediate and it is not.
v0rd4zz
so are you saying it would eventualy come back to the old performance if i left the drive half empty? also...this other drive i have now i have filled up all the way to 60gb, and it hasnt lost any performance, so its not happening to other drives like you said thing is i have to run win7 and wow client on ssd, so it leaves only 2-3 gb of space on x32, and that "kills" it...i dont have a budget for a bigger extreme drive from corsair so i took other brand that support trim, although not automatically, but through wiper program...well see how that goes... Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 22, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 22, 2010 so are you saying it would eventually come back to the old performance if i left the drive half empty? Yes if the drive firmware has Garbage collection or you are running Windows 7 with firmware support for Windows 7 TRIM. And If you have a drive that does not slow down when its full then I would use it, but I have not see any drives not slow down as they fill up even a spinning HDD.
