ASUS P5Q SE and TWIN2X4096-8500C5 issue

Recommended Posts

System : ASUS P5Q SE - BIOS 1005 (latest) - INTEL Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.00GHz.

Running Memtest (USB legacy is disabled) I cannot have the TWIN2X4096-8500C5 stable on its nominal value 1066/5-5-5-15-2T/2.1v, got a lot of errors, unless I raise the Northbridge voltage to 1.40v (this is the highest possible value (auto, 1.10, 1.20, 1.30, 1.40) with this motherboard).

Is such voltage (1.40v) safe for the MCH - seems high to me ?

However this memory seems stable running 1066/7-7-7-20-2T/2.1V with default Northbridge voltage.

What is best ?

Sounds like a stick is faulty...got few errors even at 800MHz...

Have just replaced the kit by another one (same model) and the issue went away.

The new one works like a charm at nominal values (5-5-5-15-2T/2.1v/1066MHz).

Will RMA the first one.
