TR3X6G1600C7D on Rampage II Extreme Help !!

Hello,

I have Rampage 2 Extreme with core i7 920 D0 stepping and 3 x 2GB Corsair Dominator TR3X6G1600C7D Kit that i just purchased from newegg this week.

I have not overclocked the CPU at all yet because i CANT !! :(

Was wondering if anyone has this kit working at 1600 mhz with 7-7-7-24 @ 1T timings ? or for that matter 8-8-8-24-1T or 2T timings manually without enabling XMP ?

The only way i get stable and dont crash with this kit is to enable XMP via the Ai Overclock in the bios and that sets the ram to 7-7-7-24-2T and Qpi/Dram to 1.35v and Dram to 1.65v. With Xmp enabled my system is completely stable at Stock but i cant Overclock at all :(

These are my current settings:-

CPU Ratio - Auto

BCLK - Auto

CPU V - 1.268 (as set in bios not real)

DRAM - XMP enabled!!!

QPI/DRAM - 1.356

IOH V - auto

ICH - auto

CPU PLL - auto

DRAM V - 1.65

Memory timing:

7-7-7-20 T2 and Auto for everything else as is set by XMP !!

I am completely stable with the settings Above.

Now here is where it gets strange.

I tried to set 7-7-7-24- 1T manually with QPI/DRAM to 1.35v and DRAM to 1.65v. I also 8-8-8-24- 1T manually also keeping QPI/DRAM to 1.35v and DRAM to 1.65v without any success. :(

This is quite strange because i have a Corsair Dominator 6GB TR3X6G1600C8D kit rated @ 8-8-8-24-2T as well and that does 8-8-8-24- 1T with QPI/DRAM to 1.35v and DRAM to 1.65v when i set it up manually.

The thing is with the Dominator TR3X6G1600C8D kit i used to run my i7 920 @ 4.2 Ghz with 1.25v( Real Voltage and not the Voltage set in bios which was 1.265v) and Memory set at DDR3 1603mhz with the following settings and i was perfectly stable !!!

No problems at all whatsoever with the Corsair Dominator 6GB TR3X6G1600C8D kit rated @ 8-8-8-24-2T and it even ran fine at 8-8-8-24-1T at 1600mhz with the following settings :-

CPU Ratio - Auto

BCLK - 200

CPU V - 1.268 (as set in bios not real)

DRAM - 1603

QPI/DRAM - 1.356

IOH V - auto

ICH - auto

CPU PLL - auto

DRAM V - 1.65

Memory timing:

8-8-8-24 @ 1T and Auto for everything else.

Again No problems running the above settings which are for 4.2 Ghz with the Dominator TR3X6G1600C8D kit.

However after i have put this Dominator TR3X6G1600C7D in i cant overclock at all because i cant make any changes to the ram speed settings.

If i try the following setting with the Corsair Dominator TR3X6G1600C7D Kit then i crash :-

CPU Ratio - Auto

BCLK - 200

CPU V - 1.268 (as set in bios not real)

DRAM - 1603

QPI/DRAM - 1.356

IOH V - auto

ICH - auto

CPU PLL - auto

DRAM V - 1.65

Memory timing:

8-8-8-24 - 1T and Auto for everything else

And also with

7-7-7-20 - 2T and Auto for everything else

No luck at all....

Now all i ask is can someone help me get back to my 4.2 Ghz Oc with this Corsair Dominator TR3X6G1600C7D Kit PLEASE ???

Thanks for all the help and reading my long post !!

Cheers. :)

Hello..

just wondering if someone will help me fixx this !

i am on bios 1406 and was running the Corsair Dominator 6GB TR3X6G1600C8D kit rated for 1600Mhz at 8-8-8-24-2T just fine at its rated specs with the following settings.

Intel i7 920 D0 stepping O/C'd to 4.2 Ghz

CPU Ratio - Auto

BCLK - 200

CPU V - 1.268 (as set in bios not real)

DRAM - 1603

QPI/DRAM - 1.356

IOH V - auto

ICH - auto

CPU PLL - auto

DRAM V - 1.65

Memory timing:

8-8-8-24 @ 1T and Auto for everything else.

No problems at all whatsoever with the Corsair Dominator 6GB TR3X6G1600C8D kit rated @ 8-8-8-24-2T and it even ran fine at 8-8-8-24-1T

Now i got the Corsair Dominator 6GB TR3X6G1600C7D kit rated @ 7-7-7-20-2T But this kit will not run at the same settings my old Cl8 kit does with ease.

Can someone please help me as to what i am doing wrong cause i have tried absolutely everything.

i am fully stable at 4.2 ghz with the CL8 kit but cant get stable with the Cl7 kit even though i have not changed a single setting!!!

Thank you in advance everyone!

Desperate for some help cause right now i am stuck at stock !! no overclock possible cause the system is just not stable with this new CL7 ram .

Only way the system is stable is to stay at stock and enable XMP profile. Then the system is perfectly stable.

if i try any manual settings for Dram Timings i cant get stable!! why ??

Thank you again everyone !!

cheers :)

Keep in mind that you posted on a weekend while we are closed. Please give us 24hrs before bumping a thread.

Try 2 things with the C7 kit:

1. Clear your CMOS, restart and enter the BIOS, and enable the XMP profile. Results?

2. Use the latest version of CPU-Z and post screenshots of both the SPD and MEMORY tabs.

Thank you sooo much sir ! You made my day :)

im sorry for bumping the thread sir was just a little anxious. sorry about that and it will not happen again sir :)

I cleared the CMOS and enabled XMP keeping everything else as Auto and my system is perfectly stable. Xmp sets DRAM to 7-7-7-20-2T and sets QPI to 1.35V and DRAM to 1.65v. With this i have Absolutely no crashes at all.

However if i keep XMP enabled and only change DRAM to 7-7-7-20-1T instead of 2T then i crash . Also if i try any kind of overclocking then it crashes too because the DRAM speed will change based on BCLK .

Will post CPU-z screenshots as soon as i get home of Both SPD and Memmory tabs with XMP profile enabled and everything else on Auto (stock and no overclock). It is the only setting which has given me stability so far anyway :)

The problem also occurs if i try to set my BCLK to 200 because that changes the ram timing to 1603mhz instead of the 1600 mhz as selected by XMP profile , as it involves me having to select DDR3 1603Mhz manually.

My Corsair Dominator 6GB TR3X6G1600C8D kit runs great . I manually set QPI/DRAM to 1.35v and DRAM to 1.65v and DRAM Timing to 8-8-8-24- 1T and i get perfect stability at my 200 BCLK overclock.

Thanks for all the help sir and would love to get to the bottom of this

Will post the screenshots ASAP.

Sorry for all the trouble and Thank you again !!

Cheers :)

Hello again sir .. Thank you for the super quick reply :)

i love corsair :) :)

I did think of that as well !

to check if that was the case i tried to run the kit at 8-8-8-24 -1T(with every other value at Auto/ Stock including BCLK) instead of the 7-7-7-20-2T as set by xmp and it still didnt work.

My other Cl8 Dominator kit has no problems running at these timings. it has even run at 1724mhz when i overclocked with 8-8-8-24-1T timings absolutely beautifully.

I will be getting home very soon and will post screenshots :)

Thank you again for the help !

This kind of suport is the reason i have never bought anything but corsair in the last 12 years and will forever continue to do so :)

thank you again sir :)

P.S. Here is a link to my HWbot wPrime 1024m run which i did @ 4.2 ghz with my CL8 kit running at 8-8-8-24-1T timings at 1603 mhz.If i can do the same with my Cl7 kit i will be very very happy :)

Hello again sir :)

umm i really dont think there is anything wrong as such with my ram but i could be wrong.

The ram runs at 1600 mhz and at 7-7-7-20-2T absolutely Beautifully .

Here is a screenshot of Cpu-z with the ram being absolutely stable and also Memtest with no errors. :)

It ran perfectly fine with my cpu at stock and with it overclocked to 4.2 ghz with 200 Bclk at 7-7-7-20-2T set manually , with Qpi at 1.35v and Dram at 1.65V

http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/9323/stable.th.jpg http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/1589/dsc00078qs.th.jpg

But if i try to change my Dram Timing to 7-7-7-20 -1T or 8-8-8-20-1T or even 8-8-8-24-1T, then i get crashes and mem test errors at Stock and with my cpu overclocked to 4.2 Ghz as well.

I dont change the Qpi or Dram voltage either. Its left at 1.35v for Qpi and 1.65v for Dram.

Here is a screenshot of my settings that fail at 7-7-7-20 1T.

http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/9638/unstableq.th.jpg

Im sorry for not having more screenshots of the memtest errors but i can take more of mem test errors anytime because i now know what setting causes me to crash.

What causes errors is going from 2T to 1T regardless of running 7-7-7-20 or 8-8-8-24.

Im going to investigate further but so far this is what i have found :)

Thank you again for all the help :)

will keep posting more findings as i try them but would love your opinions on my perticular case :)

Cheers and thank you again !

  • Corsair Employees

So if you set the command Rate to 2T it runs stable correct???

Command Rate is not really a memory setting and would be dependent on the make and model of MB and PSU and the specific CPU you have installed. You might look this/those setting /'s up on the BIOS Optimization Guide at Techarp and get a better explanation.
