Potoroo
Although the Dominator fins are removeable, is it safe to do so? I am putting together an i7 870-based system and I intend to install 8GB DDR3 on an Asus P7P55D-E Premium motherboard. The problem is that CPU cooler heatsinks are now so large they cover some of the RAM slots. Since this does not leave enough clearance for the fins only standard height RAM can be used. (I am not thrilled with the CMX8GX3M4A1600C9 the memory configurator threw up at me; since my motherboard is not on the list I chose the P7P55D Deluxe as the nearest option). I was looking at the CMD8GX3M4A1600C8 kit. I don't intend to overclock the hell out of it. I'm quite happy to do what I've done with my current system, which is to drop it back a step and let the increased BCLK drag it back up again, but if I'm likely to run into problems without the fins I'm better off looking elsewhere. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 13, 2010 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 13, 2010 You should be fine as ling as there is airflow from the CPU Fan over the memory.
