VS4GSDSKIT667D2 - getting up to 3.99 gb

I just bought VS4GSDSKIT667D2 - 2 2gb laptop modules for my Toshiba A105-S4284 running XP. Upon installation and verifying, I only show that 2.99 gb are available, when it should be 3.99 I believe. Is this due to a faulty module or is there some config that I need to do? These modules are PC2-5300; the laptop supports both this and 4200. Anyone have any advice out there?

Thank you for the insight. I'm trying to find where to input my machine's specs; I'm new to the forum. In my quick survey of the google results I saw that the memory limit in XP is 4 gb; I have XP Media Edition and only shows 3 gb... articles looked like the memory hole doesn't occur until you have more than 4 gb? Am I interpreting that correctly?

Not exactly, read specifically about MMIO. What has happened is that your OS has reserved memory space for other things so it comes off the top of your 4GB starting point.

The part about OS is applicable to you but the whole paper is a good read.
